FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilization, Cairo is a vast metropolis centered around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including finds from Tutankhamen's tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to the 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk (remember to haggle). The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you need a break from cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodations, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

There are way too many "favorite spots" to list.

There are way too many "favorite spots" to list. Obviously if you're going to Cairo you'll need to visit the Pyramids. The malls are exquisite and should not be missed. The cost of everything is more than reasonable. Make sure you have the Uber app. The cost of uber is so cheap, it almost seems criminal to pay so little. People are friendly. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe and never threatened. Cairo is busy almost 24/7 so there's so much to see, feel and hear. The vibe here is great!

Cairo is amazing - people are warm and kind not like everyone says about scams, you do need to be careful as everywhere but people are so welcoming! They ask for money only because that is their only income - tourism! Please be kind when you visit! If you plan to go pyramids we met Ahmed - an amazing human being & guide. Spent a full day together going 3 or 4 different virwpoints for the pyramids & visited 2 of them which are free for the public (for the big one you have to buy ticket), he took stunning photos of us, we rode camels and ATVs and went to a cafeteria in the desert where locals spend evenings having coffe and tea and riding horses and you can see the pyramids. Then went to papyrus museum and lotus flower essences for free with him too. We didn’t plan to have a guide for the pyramids but was absolutely worth it, he was so warm and kind and made our whole experience unforgettable and authentic, the highlight of our whole trip! He also has more tours available. Trustworthy man - worth booking with him, only good words about him, that’s why I am writing here about him, amazing! Ahmed’s phone number & Whatsapp - 00201112693355 or 00201001140228.

A city with chaotic traffic. The museum and the civilisation is great. People don’t speak English. If you want to travel there you should go with a group or a licences touristic guide. Don t trust simple drivers who will offer to guide you. They are just people who want extra money and don’t really know to guide you

Cairo traffic is not for the faint hearted; my advice use local hotel car or london cabs egypt especially if disabled. They are very good. 7akarascooters wete fab for hiring mobility scooter. People are lovely and helpful. We booked hotel car to take us to the pyramids and bought tkts there for entry. Car to khan el khalili bazaar. Londoncabsegypt to old cairo museum. Brilliant. Car and tkts via hotel for nile cruise and sound and light show. All recommended. Carry lots of small notes inegypt pounds or dollars for tipping. We will always remember egypt with fondness and awe.

Are you going to Cairo to visit Giza and the Cairo Museum?

Are you going to Cairo to visit Giza and the Cairo Museum? You will not regret it. Not many other reasons to go there. To say that traffic is chaos would be unfair to the word chaos. Be prepared. Noisy and polluted city. But, the archeological sites are mesmerizing. I believe once the new airport and hotel are open and fully functional near Giza, that would be the moment to go. Avoiding the East bank of the Nile and the long drive to the International airport all together will be the ticket

The city was so dusty and also the air pollution feel ill. Everybody wants money for everything. I spent 15 days. This is so very large travel scale. I recommended everybody a maximum of 4 days. Only the archeological area was magnificent. Islamic Cairo doesn't feel good and safe but the city is safe. We walked at 2 am from Tahrir Square to my hotel no body made me uncomfortable.

We had the most amazing stay at Pyramids View Inn. As a group of 5, we booked three rooms for two nights. The location is amazing and the views superb, ability to walk to shops and restaurants, breakfast on the rooftop with delicious. The Pyramids View Inn is in no way a 5 star hotel. It is basic accommodation with basic amenities. What it lacks in "class" it makes up for in authenticity and I highly recommend it for people with a sense of adventure wanting a true Egyptian experience close to everything Giza has to offer.

Location was convenient and close to airport by Uber. From hotel door to terminal 1 gate in Cairo International Airport, it took only 1 hour. The hotel looks good in photos and at quick glance. The ballroom looked great. The hotel is more like a small resort with several restaurants in the same building. Room was clean. Seems like a great place to have a party. Note my experience is partially biased, comparison is towards hotels in Central and Nordics and East asian hotels.

Our room got upgraded. The hotel is close to CAI airport, in a nice and secure area. The staff were friendly and helpful. Also, while entering the hotel, I dropped a significant amount of money by mistake, and they chased me until they returned the money, which displays the integrity of the hotel staff. The room service menu was as affordable as the prices in average restaurants outside, something I didn't see in five-star ranked hotels. And yeah, the beds were super comfy."

We had connecting rooms with a kitchen/living space in the middle - perfect for our family of 5. The location was perfect! We could easily walk to the Egyptian Museum, many restaurants and shops nearby and easy to catch taxis when needed. There’s also a small shop right next to hotel with bottled water and snacks. Beds were comfortable, staff helpful, breakfast pretty good and they could arrange a van to take us to airport (additional cost).

The best location in Cairo downtown, close to the Old Egyptian Museum, several metro stations. There were many shops, restaurants and cafe bars nearby. The building itself has elevator, so that is easy to go to the 6th floor where the hostel is. The breakfast was better than in other downtown hotels in Cairo, and vary every morning! The staff is friendly and does not harass you with travel offers like elsewhere in Egypt. (Thanks!)

Fantastic view from the top. The staff are very helpful, they organized all trips we wanted. A half day trip is 30 dollars + tip. Surprisingly good breakfast at the top. Airport shuttle for 20 dollars. The best if you pay Egyptian pound, and change your euro on the black market. 1 euro in the hotel 33 is EGP while on the black market (black market=any shop) 50 EGP.

I loved the place because it is a place that gives you a lot of energy when you go to the roof in front of the pyramids and a place that gives you positive energy and I advise all people to go to it. If you want to enjoy your trip in Egypt, go there and ask the hotel for trips to the pyramids and ask for a car to receive you from the airport.
