We like this area due to the beach, the local tavernas and the hotels. Kimatogi is our favourite taverna with delicious specials every day and our favourite hotel is Renieries on the top of the hill, with beautiful view and with the family athmosphere.
You can easily go to Chania with the bus which stops many places in Stalos. From this area the tourist buses also can pick you up easily if you want to visit Elafonissi, Balos/Gramvousa,Samaria Gorge but also to the other area of the Island.
Or with going by car it's also easy to get around and it's near to a junction to the Speed way.

Too quiet not enough to do and see.
Too quiet not enough to do and see. Restaurants not typically Greek mainly serving pizza and pasta. Couldn't get coffee before 9.am. There was no bakery. A lot of properties very run down. Very few general retail shops. It was better to catch the bus into Chania

We booked this hotel to be close to Chania but were very pleasantly surprised about what Stalos had to offer. We spent more time there than expected as it had a good selection of restaurants for both lunch and dinner. Lovely beach and a short(but busy) bus ride to Chania. An ideal base.

Located a few minutes y taxi from Chania town (12 euros each way) however you could choose to catch the bus from a bus stop opposite the hotel. Some restaurants and taverns around the hotel but not many choices

Stalos is mainly low rise and less heavily developed than further west. The live music at Dionysus taverna was excellent. The breakfast at Evilion bistro is also excellent and very good value.
There is good walking up into the hills through the olive groves. Lake Agia via Pano Stalos and Kirtomades (turn left at the bottom) takes about 1.5 hours though the cafe is closed on a Monday.

We only stayed for one night as we arrived late in Chania and needed a hotel close to the airport. The apartment was really nice and clean and satisfied our needs. Our plane was delayed and the owner was waiting for as to check in late. We could park a car in nearby car park. There was a lovely swimming pool and a garden. Beach only half a minute walk.
We have traveled to Crete many times and we can say that Rose Hotel is an excellent family run hotel located right on the beach. Very friendly staff. We all the time felt like visiting our old friends. Many thanks to Kiki, Marianna, Fotis, the guys from the beach bar and all hotel staff. The hotel has one of the best restaurants with excellent traditional Greek food and a minimarket. Rooms are cleaned every day. The sandy beach is one of the best in Kato Stalos, without stones in the water. We had a great stay! We hope to come again!
Well. What can I say. After my very last minute booking I got a call from the lovely hotel manager Nikos, who sent me some additional pics of the room I stayed to make sure that I'm completely happy.
Then after the first night I went to the pool bar and met the wonderful Georgia, who's taking care of every single guest with her heart and serves delicious breakfast, snacks and refreshing drinks. Georgia is the best!
A place with a very nice and calm atmosphere right next to the beach. Coming back asap!
Madam Irina and Mr. Sokoflis (Ioánna's parents) reminded a lot of our own parents, They treated us with their own grown vegetables and melons from their own farm. We were also pampered with their home made cheese and wine. They were so kind and loving people. Thanks so much for your caring nature that was one of the best experience we had in this wonderful island!
Platanias was close by with lots of restaurant, gift shops and supermarkets. Beaches like Agia Marina and Stalos is good too.
It is a cozy hotel with a good atmosphere, but it is old and badly in need of a thorough renovation. The rooms are relatively small, there is a fridge and a balcony. The mattresses are very hard and the toilet does not work properly - you have to lift the whole lid to flush. The cleaning was top notch and the room was always nicely cleaned and the beds made - super service.
The hotel is in a nice area with many restaurants, close to the beach and not as many tourists as Chania itself.
The property is beautifully decorated and in immaculate condition. It is very well equiped and the pool is just wonderful. It is located only a few minutes walk from all the amenities and the beach.
The best experience of our holiday was to meet Stelios and Aliki (the owners) who treated us like family and who made our first family trip to Crete truly unforgettable. We loved every minute and we will be back for sure!
Egli offers simple, tasteful accommodations in a great location at a terrific value. The owners act like hosts, looking out for each of the guests. My room was cool, quiet, and included an efficiency kitchen. I initially wondered if I might have made a mistake booking a room that was not on the beach. It turned out that in exchange for a short walk, I received not only a great value but also a much quieter room.
Room space, room partition, side seaview
Swimming pool
Bar restaurant is one of the very best in town, with best burgers specially. Breakfast also very nice and diversified
All staffs are simply and amazingly kind and helpful
Sandy beach and sea swimming
Location not far from Chania old town, and close to highway to all other destinations
Shops and restaurants all around in Stalos
Parking free next-door
Very nice and friendly host. We felt welcome there. A nice restaurant nearby (the same owner) with very good food and very friendly service. Nice view from two balconies. Two bedrooms are good for a family. A 20min drive to Chania. Quiet place. The swimming pool could have been used if we were there in the summer. If we go to Crete again, we would like to stay there.
Very spacious room, nice shower and clean. The location is across the street from beach and if you don’t mind a short walk towards the next town the beach becomes cleaner. We were here in October so less crowded and the second pool was not open. It was a chilly pool due to frequent rain during our stay. It was fairly quiet at night.
Everything! The property is private yet close to beautiful Chania, has wonderful beach and island views, is very clean and comfortable. Above all though is Georgio and his magnificent, warm and welcoming staff, they are so helpful with recommendations and getting the most out of your stay on Crete. Can’t praise them enough.
The hotel is on a beautiful beach. It's really peaceful and a bus ride into Chania. Katerina and the team were so lovely. Lunch at the beach bar was brilliant and the restaurant across the road is also excellent. It has a real family feel to it. Would recommend to anyone - great value for money!
The hotel is old fashioned, but very, very clean. And is right on the beach, with its own organized umbrella's/sunbeds which is wonderful. Surprise BBQ 's are often done.
There's free parking too.
This hotel offered our family everything we needed for a fantastic family vacation.
Amazing location, beach is right in front of the property. Morning breakfast is served outside with beautiful view over the beach and sea. Rooms are well equipped for a comfortable stay.
Katerina is a great host and very helpful. Gave us useful suggestions for places around.
Great people, the room service was perfect, the room was great with AC and a balcony.
The hotel is just few meters from the beach and you have your own sunbed with sunshade. Lots of restaurants and markets just down the street.
Greatly enjoyed my stay.
A very family friendly hotel with a life guard at the pool. It is in a quiet area of Stalos however still within walking distance to restaurants and beach. The reception are so very helpful.
The swimming pool, about 11 m., is good for short laps. Very pleasant. The beach is just across the street. There, Kimatogi restaurant has good food, great sea view, good prices.
The location was perfect! Very close to the beach with easy access to major highways. Views of Chania and beach area were wonderful! Pool is warm and very clean!
