Patan is very historic with a beautiful square with incredible buildings and temples. Also lots of eateries and places to drink, some wirh fantastic views over the square (we liked Drishya). Frequent festivals, saw an amazing procession on 1st night.
Nice shops selling souvenirs and far less hassle than in Thamel. Beautiful pond nearby. Exquisite night and day. Amazing Golden Temple nearby. Closes down early, places to eat mostly shut by 9pm. Foreign tourists are asked to pay to enter square in most of daylight hours even just to walk through, you can use side alleys to avoid this if you just want eg to go to taxi rank. One street is being dug up by the side of the square so yo sometimes taxis have a longer route round. Pathao and InDrive are 2 useful apps for travel.

It's one of my favorite destinations.
It's one of my favorite destinations. In this city, you don't even need to aim at "scenic sites." There are a lot of antient temples and charming sites randomly scattering in the street corners. It's not as heavily influenced by tourism as other areas in the region. People are very friendly.

I stayed for around 3 days; 1-2 days are adequate to explore the well-known historical sites of Patan (Patan Darbur Square, Patan Museum, the numerous temples), and are all in walking distance. Old Patan is rich in culture; the buildings are adorned with intricate Newari carvings, and the Darbur Square built 2000 years ago is still very much alive with activity. The Patan Museum, converted from an old palace, is also a must-see.
Patan is safe - I had asked the locals, and also generally felt safe on the streets. When it rains, some streets might get muddy/have some level of muddy water.

The main square and buildings are absolutely super.
The main square and buildings are absolutely super. Loved gazing at them. I would not say the price of the fee to Westerners is justified though. It's not really set up for Westerners as far as the food shops go. There is a few. But to many dirty food places. We're the hygiene incentive just does not exist. As far a bleach goes it does not cost that much to much. So there is no excuse for the level of filth I this day and age at a tourist place attraction of any kind. Patan fix up with the bleach

The apartment was steps away from the main (Durbar) square.
The apartment was steps away from the main (Durbar) square. Great view from the rooftop patio! Restaurant choices around the corner for every taste and budget. The museum is small but really worth seeing. Beautiful temples and, after the quake, much excellent repairs and restoration everywhere. Lots of little shops, places to dawdle. Good gold jewelry shops, coffee shops, groceries and everything else. Loved the atmosphere, even after being 'in love' with Bhaktapur in previous visits. Nice to spend 2 full days there. Info: Patan, like Bhaktapur, is a UNESCO site, so an entry fee is charged to walk around the main area and this includes the museum. Ask for special validation stamp if staying more than one day. Support what UNESCO is doing!!

Patan is one of my favourite places to explore.
Patan is one of my favourite places to explore. Around every corner is another historical building, temple, shrine etc..
You can spend hours getting lost down the narrow streets. I highly recommend visiting. Especially the Durbar Square and restaurants nearby for a great view.
Our stay was incredible… Everyone was so incredibly kind and helpful at every step of our stay. The premises are absolutely beautiful, and we appreciated every renovation that was made to the historic building. Location is fabulous… patan is less tourist dense than some other neighborhoods of Kathmandu, and it was close to attractions and dining opportunities, as well as historic attractions. The entrance is not difficult to find and it is easy to arrange taxis from the nearby patan square main gate.
The location was right in Old Patan, around 5 mins walk to the Patan Darbur Square, Museum and the historical attractions. The staff was very responsive over the Booking.com chat function and helpful in bringing my luggage up to the 3rd floor (all rooms are either on the 3rd or 4th floor). I particularly like the traditional building and furniture, as well as the balcony.
Towels and hand soapbar are provided but take note to bring your own bathing soap and toiletries.
The homestay is located few minutes walk to Durban square. There is a supermarket just down the road and many affordable local restaurants if you want to eat out. The room was spotless. The breakfast was the best I had in my whole trip in Nepal. The owner will make his best to make you feel comfortable. I highly recommend anyone staying here and spending few nights in Patan. I love it! I will go back when in Nepal
The service is very good. The person who managed the place is very responsive. The room is spacy, the cleanliness is acceptable. So many cultural activities around because it is near Patan durbar square, so many marriage happening and we can see the dancing and singing from the window. Very early in the morning we can hear the women chanting the praying.
I always stay here when I need to go to Kathmandu-it is a fantastic hostel with the nicest dorms I've ever stayed in. The staff are wonderful, the rooms are lovely and its in a great, quiet location in Patan with easy access to all the busier areas of Kathmandu. Cannot recommend enough, I tell everyone coming to Kathmandu they should stay in this hostel.
Location was great - close to cultural sites and business (I was travelling for the latter). Very friendly staff and good atmosphere. I stayed with a colleague, with whom I had also stayed at another hotel nearby - which is the kind we would usually stay at, with a more corporate/conference feel. We both agreed KGH Patan was a lot better ;-)
This was my second stay at Shakya House as I visited in 2019. I love everything about this hotel, the location, ambience and the lovely family who create such a welcoming atmosphere. Thanks again for making my stay so enjoyable...as you say come as a guest leave as a friend 🙂. Will see you next time I'm in Kathmandu!
Kathmandu is not an easy city with a maze of noisy and crowded street.
Next-door hotel is located within a quiet neighbourhood and acts like an oasis in the desert. This positive impression is reinforced thanks to the services offered by Tisa and his staff always smiling and helpful.
I will definitely return there
Square hotel exceeded my expectations! The high tech rooms were a delightful experience, complemented by the friendly staff who provided a personal touch to my stay. The hotel's attention to detail in tourism recommendations and the stunning interiors made it an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!
When i walked in that apartment i was shocked on how clean, organized and everything was available to my needs , the fridge was clean and usable, drinking water and gas were available as well the bathroom was clean all around it was a 10/10 . Anytime i will be staying in patan i will be choosing this place.
The room is well decorated and spacious. All necessary items are available in the kitchen. The location is very favorable just 5 mins walking distance from Patan Durbar Square. The owner is very friendly and kind. Its a great place to stay. Highly recommended!
Very clean, cozy and beautiful space. Incredible view from the window and quiet courtyard! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Responsive, friendly staff welcoming and responsive to any request advise!
It was very nice staying at Boutique Heritage Home! The location is perfect (near Patan Durbar Square), the breakfast is delicious, and the rooms and garden are beautiful. I wholeheartedly recommend this place.
The hotel is located nearby airport. The historical and cultural aspect of the area makes the stay interesting. The staff members go beyond their duties to help you. They were amazing!
Private, quiet, but relatively close to the Dunbar Square area of Patan. Room was simple, the water hot. Pluses were a bedside table and lamp with an outlet for charging.
The room was very pleasant, it was cozy and clean. Breakfast was excellent and incredibly varied. The hotel team has always been friendly, patient and helpful.
Location: quiet area near Patan Dubar square
Room: cosy, clean, comfit bed
The host: Mr Pradeep and his family are so helpful and make me feel like at home
Shailendra and his family are extremely welcoming. I highly recommend to pick Patan, and this guesthouse/hotel in particular, for a stay around Kathmandu.
