FAQs about hotels in Auckland

Thrilling City of Sails and Volcanoes

Called the "City of Sails" due to the large number of yachts anchored in Waitemata Harbor, Auckland is the largest city of both New Zealand and Polynesia. Built on the Auckland Volcanic Field featuring about 48 extinct volcanoes, this city truly is a blast!

Auckland is a real cultural mix with strong Asian, European, Maori and Polynesian influences, celebrated in frequent festivals and sports events. Some examples of these cultures can be seen at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, one of the best in New Zealand. For more, try the upmarket dining of Viaduct Harbour.

Another must-see is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can even perform the Sky Jump, a controlled base jump from 630 feet!

Climbing the volcanic cones as well as the stunning Auckland Harbour Bridge will provide unforgettable, panoramic views of the city’s skyline. For a different perspective, why not try a cruise or sea kayaking?

Getting to the city center is an easy trip from Auckland International Airport. Find modern hotels, comfortable motels and cheap hostels on Booking.com, sure to have the perfect place to stay for your trip.

The CBD area has a lot to walk too.

The CBD area has a lot to walk too. The dinner at the orbit in skytower was very good. The wine tour to Waiheke was lovely! Do note the ferry ride is $55 return if you book online. Piha black Sand Beach is about 50 mins from Auckland. I would suggest a stop off at the Arataki visitor centre before heading to Piha. I would also suggest going to the Mercer bay Loop. It is a bit of a steep walk, but can be done within an hour. Just make sure you do the loop and start where the marker is. The walk up the other way is not as bad as going down. The hop on hop off bus was helpful. I also suggest a stroll up Mount Eden. You get beautiful views of Auckland.

Auckland was clean and felt safe but it wasn't terribly exciting. It's a good place to fly into / out of but only worth a day or two on its own. Around 5 -6pm and most places are closed. There's a decent selection of restraunts and cafes covering a wide range of countries / dishes. I walked everywhere but there are escooters all over the place which look to be preferred method of travel. I spent a day hiking around Rangitoto Island which was enjoyable. Very interesting to be walking amongst volcanic rubble. I went to the Sky Tower but it's not actually that tall and having just flown in, the views from the plane were far better. Also the windows on the first viewing floor were not that clean. I would not recommend the Sky Tower.

The city center is not too big, so there is no need to spend more than 2 days here. I would recommend to visit one of the islands close to Auckland like Waiheke, it was the best decision ever. I would 100% recommend to visit the sky tower, but do not waste your money eating at the Orbit 360 restaurant, the food is not worth the money, maybe try the bar.

The easy parking is a big bonus here compared to other cbd hotels. The rooms with balconies are best. They have a bit more room and you can open the windows/door and have fresh air. The hotel is in a leafy suburb so you're not surrounded by the noise of high rise buildings in the concrete jungle. There's a few good restaurants within easy walking distance and the Domain, which is just a jewel in the Auckland CBD landscape. If you get a room on level 3 or 4 there is a lovely view over the harbour as well.

We stayed there during the wind storm and our flight got delayed for a day. Most of the hotels were either fully booked or changed their pricing to outrageously high. Luckily the front desk staff was super helpful and managed to extend our stay for one more night due to a last minute cancellation by other clients. The room was spacious, clean and well-designed. front desk was 24 hours which was very helpful. it’s about a 10-15 min walk to the city centre with lots of dining options.

comfortable hotel near the airport. the hotel restaurant is pretty good if a bit overpriced, which is good since nothing else is walkable. only frustration was their advance email said to call from the airport for a shuttle. they didn’t pick up and hold disconnected four times. took an Uber. it turns out the shuttle wasn’t free anyway, and was a separate service on a fixed schedule. would have appreciated that being communicated accurately

The unit was on level 14, had an outstanding view. Two bedrooms. There was a balcony to one bedroom and another balcony from the lounge area and also another enclosed balcony from the lounge area which had an out door table & 4 chairs. Underground secure car parking with lift access. Very close and easy walking to the Manukau Shopping Complex. Really easy to get to the Auckland Airport by car. We would certainly stay here again. I also stayed for one night a week earlier. I asked for the same end room ’18’ which I thought was perfect. Clean with tv/wifi kitchenette and large bathroom. Could park outside the door - a unique electronic patio door mechanism. Quiet neighborhood on wide, quiet collector road. 10 minutes from the airport on the way out and close to the cross-city freeway (tried to stay out of Auckland traffic as much as possible).

Location! We flew from SFO to Auckland to go on a Princess cruise. We took a bus from the airport to Sky City bus station. From there it was a short walk (about 10-15 minutes and thankfully downhill!) to where we picked up the keys. Then another 10-minute walk to the very secure unit on the wharf. Great location to wander around for a couple days and then walk to our ship to start our cruise.

We've been staying here for 23 years. The property is located close to town. The bed is comfortable and we always get a room with a view. The room is larger than similarly priced rooms in Auckland CBD. Breakfast is generous. Price is cheap for what you get.Free parking too. I don't like city driving so the bus being only $1.10 to town from right outside the driveway is fab. $8 for an uber.
