Évora is a beacon of heritage in the heart of rural Portugal. Life is played out among narrow, cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings that provide welcome shade. Most buildings are decorated with blue or yellow trim, giving this laidback city a coherent feel.
Blue tiles adorn the incredible interior of the Misericórdia Church, and the Church of St John the Evangelist also features this typical Alentejo style. The most outlandish is the Church of St Francis where one chapel is created entirely from human bones and skulls.
The Gothic cathedral has a peaceful cloister and next door is Évora Museum with its collection of medieval, Islamic and Roman artefacts. In the large square in front sit remains of the Roman Temple, and Roman bath ruins lie under the town hall.
The Palace of the Dukes of Cadaval has a turret-like tower, similar to those in the city walls. One of Évora’s most impressive monuments – the 16th-century Silver Water Aqueduct – passes right through the walls and used to end in large Praça do Giraldo, the city centre’s main square. Some of its stone arches have been cleverly bricked in to create bars and restaurants.
Booking.com’s accommodation in Évora includes luxury hotels with pools, cheap hostels near the train station and guest houses by the university.
Evora is a one-night stay town. The Chaple of Bones was a great place to spend Halloween. Interesting history. A walk around the Public Park with the Peacocks was a fun experience. We ate at Dona Laura Restaurant which I would highly recommend to others. The Hotel was centrally located and we walked everywhere.
The one negative comment was that Evora was the first city I visited where beggars approached you aggressively holding small children.

Terrific historic town, wonderful preservant of ancient buildings, culture and history mixed with modern life. Disappointed that the palace and private church were closed on Monday—tour book had indicated otherwise. Definitely a town with rich heritage worth visiting.

Historical, relatively quiet, you can walk around feeling relaxed. Most restaurants are a little pricy. Having just experienced an expensive but very low quality restaurant in Sintra, we didn't dare to try expensive restaurants in Evora. Hotels are mostly high quality. It is nice to spend a few days to enjoy this great town.

I would highly recommend Evora.
I would highly recommend Evora. The Roman Temple is an amazing remnant of ancient times; the Chapel of Bones is fascinating, if a bit macabre and the whole town is lovely. There are a number of beautiful churches, many of which had services on Sunday. We liked that one can walk everywhere and that there seemed to be a lot of locals around (not only tourists!). We found an excellent restaurant where we had traditional Alentejo dishes. One needs a full day here at least (preferably 2 nights).

Lovely place to visit.
Lovely place to visit. Full of history and lovely buildings. Some great places to eat too. We ate at Enoteca Cartuxa - highly recommended but booking needed. We went on a Monday and it was busy. Walked around most of the walled city but could have done with more than 24 hours to see it properly.

Authentic old city. Not too crowded with tourists.
Authentic old city. Not too crowded with tourists. Food scene was great - ate at restaurant called Momento which was one of our best dining experiences during our 18 day trip through Portugal. It was a small restaurant with a very engaging owner/chef who spends time with each guest explaining the farm-to-table eating adventure.
MouraSuites Hotel is a stunning property with elegant interiors on the prettiest plaza. The rooms and breakfast area are beautifully appointed and access to the monuments and restaurants is very handy. The staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and in particular Jorge, the concierge, helped us enormously with a hire car problem and we can't thank him enough. This is a very professionally run establishment and I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Evora.
A gorgeous boutique hotel in the heart of Evora's old city walls, with super views of the surrounding city and countryside. The building and furnishings are oozing character, and our suite room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast buffet was fresh, beautiful and tasty. The welcome snacks were local and yummy, upon our arrival, and were a lovely surprise. This place is definitely worth a stay!
We never met the hosts, Ana and Jorge, but they were amazing via messages through the Booking website, nice and attentive. They made sure we had all necessary information for checking in and out and also gave us lots of recommendations of things to do and eat in Évora. The flat is spacious, the kitchen well appointed and it is located in a quite courtyard not far away from the center and the main sights of the city. We had a really pleasant stay.
Wonderfully preserved architecture of a 15th century convent, where our room was a former monk's cell. Almost had to duck to get through the door! And right in front of the hotel are 1st century Roman ruins. The lovely small city of Evora is very walkable, very charming and a fantastic location from which to explore other great towns and sites in the area. Our small rental car was perfect for getting around some of the very narrow roads in town.
Great little place in an ideal location to see Evora. Our room heater malfunctioned and we were freezing but the manager promptly took care of things. The room had plenty of amenities and the beds were good. We had some trouble accessing the lodging. We arrived on a Sunday and the gate was locked. We tried buzzing reception but evidently nobody was working the desk. I finally called the contact person from Booking.com and got some action.
We had room 19. I believe it is the only one with a balcony, but I maybe wrong. When I booked it I booked it based on having a balcony. In comparison to a few rooms next to us, I believe it was larger too. All in all, I was very impressed with the hotel. The staff were very nice, the rooms over the top clean, the included breakfast very delicious.
If you are traveling to Evora, I would highly recommend this hotel.
Couldn't speak more highly of this hotel. Probably the nicest place we stayed in all of Portugal. The breakfast was the nicest hotel breakfast I've ever had. I also enjoyed using the sauna and getting room service! There were so many lovely little touches in our room to make our stay comfortable. Parking right out the front of the hotel. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in Evora.
Retaining the old world charm that permeates Évora, but with all the modern conveniences, this comfortable hotel was a real find. on our trip to Évora 4 years ago and staying just across from the ADC, we poked our heads in and resolved to stay here. How glad we are that we did. Not just a cozy comfortable bed and hearty breakfasts, but so much more.
The hotel is lovely. Our room was spacious and airy and new/ spotless. It was very comfortable, and the windows and shades kept out noise and heat (the street is somewhat busy and Evora can be hot).
Quality bathroom products, nespresso in the room and free water!
We loved the rooftop terrace. The location is ideal for walking around Evora.
The facilities in the room met all of our needs. The room and bathroom were very clean and of a good size. The location was perfect for exploring Evora. We enjoyed an excellent lunch and the choices at breakfast were extensive. Staff were very helpful, polite and clearly trained to a high level. An excellent hotel.
This is a beautiful apartment with very high quality fittings no ikea to be seen here. Beautiful antique furnishings and monogrammed linen fresh flowers like being in a 5 ⭐️ hotel but an apartment. Luisa met us at the tourist bureau and gave great recommendations for our visit to Evora. The apartment is on a great location
This hotel is really good. Big room, clean and a very comfortable bed. The lounge pool area is very pleasant with sun beds and a bar. The breakfast was good, with enough variety and tasty options. Located just at the entrance of Evora's wall is the perfect place to reach by car. Parking on the street is easy and free.
The hotel is much near the city square, which is the center of Evora. We could reach any tourist attraction by walking within 10 minutes.
The room is very clean and quiet at night. And we can feel that the host tries so hard to make it comfortable by using high-quality bedding. There even is a wool Portugal blanket.
Loved this beautiful boutique hotel in the center of Evora. The staff was exceptional and extremely friendly! Staff tirelessly helped us locate a taxi that would take us all the way to Sintra when train services were on strike!
Had an amazing time here: super friendly staff ensuring everyone feels well taken care of, the hotel is kids and animal friendly, walkable distance to both train station and Évora centre, absolutely great breakfast buffet.
Location is absolutely perfect. Towels were the best ones of our entire portugal stay. Seens silly, but after a few nights with old worn towels wt other hotels...these were luxurious . Would for sure stay again
The hotel staff was absolutely exceptional. Best stay in all of our two weeks in Portugal (and everywhere was good). Possibly best hotel stay ever for me. The staff worked tirelessly and treated us like royalty.
The staff was exceptional, the amenities at the hotel were amazing, and the food was great! Can't say enough great things about this place. If you are traveling to Evora, this place is a must stay!
Amazing hotel. Perfect room and really cozy bar .
Breakfast was one of the top we had everywhere .
Parking was easy just in front of the hotel.
10min walk to center of evora
Highly recommended
Beautiful relaxing and interesting hotel. Room spacious with luxury bed and bathroom.
Could not fault service in all areas from reception to restaurant.
A short drive from Evora
