Interesting hillside town. Lots to do.
Interesting hillside town. Lots to do. There is a great lakeside cycle path. We rented e-bikes from Takamaka Sports. They were in great condition and the young staff member who served us was very helpful. Walking around the town is pleasant and there is a good selection of restaurants.

The town is a lovely, clean and elegant.
The town is a lovely, clean and elegant. There were plenty of restaurants serving excellent food. The main part of the town is on the terrace which meant that there were hills to walk up and down. Most of the buildings date back to the turn of the last century but were very well maintained and gave the town a pleasant feel. There were plenty of green spaces.
There was an open-air theatre in the park with tea dances in the afternoon and other activities and a larger arts centre. There is a casino in an interesting style, with art nouveau and art deco features.
The town centre is more than a mile from the lake and although we walked on the first day, we discovered that it is easier to travel on the buses, which were frequent and reasonably priced with a flat fee.
The lake is pleasant with a tree-lined esplanade and plenty of activities, including paddle board hire, swimming and cruises.
We travelled by train. The station is at the bottom end of the town with a quarter of a mile walk to the town centre. There were frequent connections to Chambery and Annecy, as well as mainline connection to Lyon and other cities.

This is a lovely, gentle resort with plenty of things to do and nearby places to travel to, even for those without a car, like us.
There were plenty of restaurants, although it was best to book the night before if you want a table outside at a particular time.
It is a little hilly but not so much that it would compromise anyone with most abilities.
The railway station is close to the town centre, with good connections to Lyon, Chambery, Annecy and Geneva, amongst other places - rail travel is not expensive in France.
The lake is some distance from the town centre; over a mile and we found it best to take the bus. There are three to four an hour and it is easy to pay the 1.5 Euro fare by contactless card for each journey.
At the lake, you can take boat rides and cruises, or you can swim, hire paddle boards or even small motor boats.
The only drawback of the region is that there is not very much English spoken, although we coped with the few words of French that we have - we learnt more through the week!
There were outside performances in the part as well as tea dances, often with live music. It caters more for the older traveller and there is less to do for children.

Unless you are into watercraft or water sports, there really isn't much reason to go to Aix-Les-Bains. The people are very nice and we found a couple terrific restaurants, but there really wasn't much to do.

Loved the old town and the quaint little shops that give a cozy and friendly atmosphere. Check out the Boulangerie Sabourdy for their vienoisserie and their Chocolaterie (just a few doors down) for... their chocolate. A quick drive or 15mins walk takes you to Lac du Bourget with plenty of opportunities to swim, walk, bike and rollerskate... Or simply picnic on the lakefront promenade. Easy to find parking everywhere. A great place to have a relaxing time.
Excellent breakfast, maybe a little pricey but fresh and quality products. Location is just perfect close to most restaurants, the Valvital thermes and many other things to do in the city center. Au Lac room was very spacious and well furnished, with beautiful terrace. Public parking optional (with private car place and pass for the hotel residents) which is a luxury in city center. Very helpful and kind staff (ask Maud for restaurant suggestions !), Would definitely recommend this place !
The apartment is located in an enchanting 19th-century hotel next to a park and relatively close to the railway station. Both the room and the kitchenette are very well equipped and our stay there was comfortable - even during a summer heat wave. I would also like to thank the owners for their flexibility when planning the arrival and departure time (our travel plans changed on the arrival day and we were allowed to check in 4 hours earlier).
1.8kW electric car charging was made available on special request, thanks. Nevertheless please install a couple of 3.7kW sockets. Place was clean everywhere, restaurant quite good, staff very friendly and helpful. Quiet and calm place, quite close to town center (5mins car/20mins walk). Appts/room was spacious, although just basic and a bit 80ies style (we don't mind). Not expensive. Very good extra services.
The staff were excellent - facilities were great - the spa experience was good even though the hotel was very busy it’s summer and everywhere is busy but under the circumstances the experience was good - breakfast was good again bearing in mind how busy this time of year is - fresh and plenty of choice - well done guys and girls if you can achieve this level at the height of season it’s a pat on the back 😊
The hotel is pretty well located in the center of the city. There's a park nearby and many small shops around, also supermarkets and a local market nearby. The host is super nice and offers help for all there is to know. Speaks French, English, German. The room offers a possibility to hang up clothes to dry. Wifi worked well.
the hotel was right in the town center. The staff was super nice and the rooms were comfy. The breakfast was excellent. They looked after our luggage so we did not have to leave them in the car. Overall great.
Location is great, few steps from the center and the restaurants. Spa is good although pools are too small for swimming but rather for water massages. Room was also nice with a coffee machine and a kettle.
So glad we chose this hotel. It’s right on the lake within walking distance of lots of restaurants and leisure facilities. We had a balcony with a lake view - definitely worth paying a bit extra for that.
The hotel has a prime location right by the lake, great accesible parking and the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Also, the restaurant and staff were great, we had some awesome meals.
Very clean with comfortable beds and quiet overnight stay. Easy to get to and just a short drive down to the lake. Road parking outside the hotel was no bother.
clean comfy rooms, good choice at breakfast hotel is a little out the way ,couldn't get a table in the restuarant so had a 20 min walk to find somewhere.
