We fit a lot in to 3 days - highlights of our trip were the Chocoversum, using the S-bahn, seeing the Elbetunnel, seeing a local festival and visiting the habour. We were also lucky with the restaurants we went to with some great restaurants just off the harbour that were worth trying out. The city is easy to navigate with excellent public transport but we preferred to walk around as the diversity in buildings was so interesting to look at. One of the main features for us with Hamburg is that it isn't yet overrun with tourists so the local people don't have any tourist fatigue. We were really impressed with how friendly and willing to help local people were - they were a real source of information that helped us understand the city and how it functions better. It doesn't really seem like an obvious tourist destination, but is definitely a city that is worth a visit. The only downside was the weather - it rained for 2 of the 3 days but even that didn't dampen our enthusiasm during our visit.

This is such a great city.
This is such a great city. It was much more beautiful than I expected, easy to get around, lots to see. The harbour area is amazing.
We didn’t have enough time to see much but hired bikes and did a self guided tour.
It did get quite windy at one point!

Hamburg is not just a huge port city.
Hamburg is not just a huge port city. It has some beautiful canals, a lake and magnificent gardens as well as very special historic buildings, many constructed from red clay bricks. The Elbphilharmonie building is spectacular and is free to go up to the plaza level - halfway up the structure - for wonderful views over the city and port. The galleries are top class and the Portuguese quarter had some great restaurants. The SBahn and UBahn trains are easy to navigate and there are numerous boat tours of the port and canals. And I was only there for 2 days!

Hamburg is a beautiful city, enhanced by the friendliest people. We stayed at the Crown Plaza Alster, a picturesque part of town with the most beautiful greenery and flowers. Exploring the city on foot was the best option. It allowed us to see the sights and taste local cuisine and drinks. The Hop-on-Hop-off bus tour was however not worth the price. Be aware that there are various bus lines/routes and your ticket is purchased for a particular route. A visit to the City Hall is a must. Don't forget to go inside. My favourite restaurant was Opitz - excellent food, atmosphere and service. My favourite takeaway was Ali's Gemusekebab in the main mall and for sundowners and a meal, you must visit Anleger 1870.

Hamburg is Germany's second city, and the port covers...
Hamburg is Germany's second city, and the port covers apparently ten percent of the city footprint, so maritime topics are very much a part of this city. The people are very friendly, and I was pleasantly surprised, that they say good morning to you in lifts, and if they sit next to you on a park bench! The city is very easy to get around, as the metro works so well, and the railways station has connections to so many places! In spite of being such a busy city, it doesn't feel overcrowded or stressful at all, and has lots of open spaces. I would love to go back!
The room delivered all that were expected, well furnished, good bed, clean and all needed armenities available. Breakfast very well, something for anyone and a good variety, nice breakfast restaurant. Location suited us perfect and were chosen exactly for the purpose, very close to the Cruise Ship terminal in Hamburg. We did not look for scenic views from the hotel, such does not exist, but a nice, clean and easy access, arriving in the evening and departing with a cruise ship in the morning.
Very friendly reception staff, allowed me to check in an hour or so early.
Great location, on the edge of the reeperbahn so its still pretty quiet at night. Station across the road and hamburg centre within a reasonable walk anyway.
Room was clean, spacious and modern, very pleasantly surprised. Felt more like a modern trendy hotel.
Great shower with loads of hot water and pressure.
My room had a double bed with a single bunk over the top so perfect if you've got a little one.
Beautiful old building divided into different hotels on every floor. A lift is provided. The area is the most beautiful in Hamburg, very exclusive neighbourhood. There are restaurants scattered but also a short walk to cafes, supermarket, hairdresser, ect.
The staff are wonderfully kind, and delightful and go out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect .
It is also a 5 min walk to Dammtor Train station which has trains departing all over Germany and Europe.
Comfortable rooms with thoughtful touches like charging ports in the bedside lamps. The hotel offers 4 and 5 bed rooms, which are really helpful for a family (and seem to be rare in Germany). The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was tasty, although could get crowded during peak school group times. Fortunately there was a schedule posted in the lobby, so it was easy to figure out when the school groups would be eating and avoid them.
Perfect location in the centre of Hamburg with all the facilities at your disposal 24/7.Very friendly and mannered personal always helpful regarding your request’s making your stay a very relaxed one.
The hotel is providing high quality products regarding brasserie, dishes and drinks with an exquisite and captivating french theme including decoration and upgraded technology at your disposal.
Entirely recommended!
a true boutique hotel in a residential area of Hamburg. Stylish and welcoming restaurant with wonderful, warm atmosphere (open fire place, rustic chic) and excellent food. Super kind staff, very very attentive and helpful. The single room was tiny but super cozy, with great attention to detail and beautiful materials (natural colours and fabrics/materials). Excellent for a short stay, I will surely come back!!
THE GEORGE is for sure one of the best boutique style hotels in hamburg. in combination with it`s restaurant / bar "da caio" it offers a incredible combination. this bar is the hot spot to be on weekends with a stylish atmosphere for excellent cocktails and fantastic food selection. and the location just steps away from the "aussenalster" , a beautiful city central lake is simply stunning.
The hotel is in a sensational location, not far from the centre, with which it is very well connected, yet in a quite secluded setting opposite a lake surrounded by greenery. An ideal place to relax, but also as a base for exploring Hamburg. Very helpful and communicative staff. Rooms with stylish interiors. Tasty breakfasts with options for everyone.
This stylish, comfortable, boutique hotel affords easy access to shops, restaurants, and walking paths around Lake Alster. The staff was friendly and professional, breakfast was delicious, and the room was first rate. We very much enjoyed sipping our wine and taking in the views from our balcony.
Awesome hotel next to Hamburg Airport with good connections to the center via public transport.
Three star hotel with good facilities and comfy rooms. I enjoyed the German-style breakfast buffet with bread and cold cuts. Worth the money! Cheap and excellent quality. Friendly staff too!
Whenever I have a stopover in Hamburg I stay in this hotel if possible. It's so close to the train station, the staff is always very nice and helpful, the room is comfortable and despite being right in the centre it's usually quiet. The windows close well.
This is a bit of a gem of a hotel. Very modern and recently refurbished tastefully. Good location in the suburbs of Hamburg but is very close to the train andf bus stations so connectivity is easy to get into Hamburg centre. Breakfast was good too.
There’s a lot to love about this hotel. I like that it is in a quieter area, while still only one stop away from the city centre. The rooms are nice, soundproof, the staff is friendly, and the lounge is a great area to get a bit of work done.
This is a wonderful hotel very centrally located. The clerk who checked us in was friendly & helpful. We are not German speakers and he kindly spoke to us in English. It was our first night in Germany & we were made to feel very welcome.
It is a nice and cosy hotel, located in St Pauli neighborhood close to Hamburg city centre. Check in, check out and the other procedures are done by the guest himself.
It is clean, warm and quiet. Furniture is new, but very basic.
Amazing stuff , very very professional I advise everyone to book this hotel . I had zero issues there . Honestly the quality is soo high that any time I visit hamburg will definitely take this hotel .
This is a very nice hotel in Hamburg. I love the location, an easy walk from the train station. Also, the staff were very helpful and professional. Excellent breakfast, too!
