The Holy City
This holy city is located in western Saudi Arabia and is also known as Makkah. Millions of Muslims make a pilgrimage here, as the pilgrimage is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The Prophet Muhammad was born here, and it is a sacred place for Muslims and the birthplace of Islam.
Non-muslims are not permitted into Mecca and the government of Saudi Arabia issues special visas for people making the pilgrimage. Most people coming to the Mecca will enter via the Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport and Jeddah is the gateway to the city.
The Hajj has a fairly set itinerary including a visit to the Sacred Mosque, al-Masjid al-Haram, built around the Kaaba. Mecca contains many restaurants with varied cuisine and tea shops are available for light refreshments such as traditional tea and biscuits. The staff were very friendly. I am specially grateful to the two Egyptian brothers (brother SAMIR and brother HAD). These two brothers are very friendly, sincere, helpful and kind. The Indian brother Sarafu-alddin was also very helpful always smiling. This is a holy place. Too hot in summer. Looks like this is safe City but also to be vigilant as lot of people visiting heere. Prices are not fixed and needs to be knowledgeable about the cost, otherwise you may end up paying more. Lot of food choices here. Most of travelers are pilgrims to visit Macca. It is better to understand Arabic, because sometimes, it is hard for people here to understand English. However, they can find the translator, if required. I liked the trip.
I liked the trip. Hotel location is prime location and there service is very good.( Swissôtel Makkah) The only thing I can’t find kids entertainment or even near by Haram ( walking distance). The people selling in the street making more crowd while going to Haram or others asking for taxi ride. The virtual museum is good attraction. Especially for kids. Shopping is overpriced.

Mr Shafiqur Rehman, restaurant manager was excellent, providing every possible assistance. Breakfast was great with many choices. Our out of hours house keeping request was immediately dealt with by Mr Jamal. Must recommend this hotel for anyone looking quality accomodation near Haram in Makkah.
