We loved the room and the location! We had a really lovely corner room with a wonderful view towards the river. The room had a separate toilet room from the sink/shower area - great for a family!

We loved this hotel. The location was excellent. The staff was so helpful. Most of all they had a "livng room" with free coffee/tea, a microwave and a long dining table/chairs and a couch and many reference books about Japan and Kyoto. It was so easy to order take out across the street and bring it back to eat here..cheaper and quicker on some days. Also, the amenities were amazing. A whole set of shelves with anything you might need.

The breakfast was amazing and really amongst the best hotel breakfasts I've every had. The variety of food offered, the ambience and the service was fantastic. The rooms run small but we asked for extra luggage rack and made it work well. The air conditioning is great so we were able to sleep well despite the humidity
Right across the street from Kyoto Station, Hotel New Hankyu features 5 restaurants, a tour desk and a 24-hour front desk. Free WiFi is available throughout the entire property.

Location is very near the station and bus stop. A very short walk to one of the entrances of a mall that is connected to the station. As Kyoto station is very big, even though it is very near, the walk from station (especially if you're coming from Asty road), to the hotel is still a bit far (maybe 7-10 mins walk). It is near other malls as well. Near to a lot of eating places. Even though the hotel is a bit old, everything you will need for the stay is provided.

It's generally a very beautiful city, I could spend a whole month there and take my time to see many places which are less crowded...
I went to Kuuya-no-Taki Waterfall - almost no one around all the way and the trip through the magical scented pine trees was soul fulfilling.
The Hozugawa River Boat Ride through majestic scenery and the Romantic train, as well as walking alone along the river - totally worth it. The boat drivers - great entertainers!
Mount Hiei and the temples there - another magical place to experience silence and natural beauty.
Google maps finds you anywhere and points you to the nearest public transport station, so I really appreciate this acuracy and reliability, it matters if you like wondering around the nature on your own... and it's a great and safe way to avoid the crowds...

A vibrant city with so many attractions worth visiting and enjoying. The locals are so polite and helpful it makes tourng around the city so much esier. Unfortunately many others love Kyoto as well and the crowds at key attractions can be duanting I feel for the locals trying to go about their daya to day activities in amongst so many tourists.

Smaller than Tokyo, Kyoto offers more Temples, shrines and gardens with less travel. Use of local buses in recommended, although busy, the fix price, 230yen, makes for good value. Southern Tori gates can be reached on the train. A great area, but long pull to the top for not a great deal of return. Maybe stop at the viewpoints.

Kyoto Castle, Golden Pavilion and Silver Pavilion worth seeing and walking back down the Philosophers Path. Pontocho area by the river is atmospheric, Gion Corner (show) was enjoyable.
However, the Higashiyama area between Kodai-ji and Kiyomizu-dera was chock full of tour groups when we visited one afternoon. Maybe a very early morning or evening visit would be better.

Kyoto is an amazing city, and well-connected to other cities/towns in Kansai area. It is a bit crowded due to tourism but if the crowds are too much, simply take a day trip to the mountains and nature around! We really enjoyed Arashiyama area, and the town of Uji (the town of matcha/tea)!
Firstly I loved the look and feel of this hotel, it felt very traditional and true to the Kyoto area with a modern twist. The onsen (traditional hot spring pool) was amazing and felt like a luxury which many other more expensive hotels don’t have. The room although simple was lovely (although it felt a bit smaller than the pictures). Breakfast was good (but not the best we had compared to the hotels we stayed in Japan). Finally the location was perfect, just minutes away from the Gion district and many restaurants and temples.
We loved the space in the room. Having come from Tokyo it was lovely to have a room where you could put your case on the floor and not have to climb over it. This hotel had the best bathroom set up of our entire trip. The shower/bath/drying room was amazing with grwat toilteries. The coffee service at reception was great too. The location is near the Toji temple with its old 5 storey pagoda. It's 25 min walk with cases from the station in a quiet area. Lots of little stores and restaurants in the neighbourhood.
I love everything about this hotel❤️ Def gonna come back again. The room is very spacious, and the beds are very comfy. The kitchen and washroom
are very modern!! They have a Dyson for your hair! Not to mention the coffee drip🥰 and drinking water. I recommend for family and bestie group.
Plus Hina the staff was very friendly and polite. The breakfast set was also very yummy. I really love the jams and big soft bread.
The hotel location was very convenient as it is very near to Kyoto station and Aeon mall.
The staff is excellent. They are very helpful and attentive. They always greeted us when we would leave the hotel and come back. Very modern and clean facility. The breakfast was the star of the show. The hotel breakfast may have been one of the best meals we have ate on this Japan trip and we have been to Japan multiple times before. We at there twice in 3 days. There is a also a very good grocery store underneath the hotel. This hotel is great for families also. We highly recommend this hotel.
Everything the other reviews said were true. I would absolutely stay here again if i return to Kyoto. Very family friendly, best hotel shared bath I’ve ever used, amazing breakfast with adorable Shinkansen plates, location steps from station, playground, and train museum. Purchase tickets to attractions from staff and save time. Luggage storage always available, super comfortable rooms with enough beds to only need one room, and always a genuine smile on the staff members faces.
The hotel was located at the prime location within Kyoto’s Gion. The spaces were impeccably clean and our room was very comfortable. It was also nicely decorated, in Japanese style. The hotel has an onsen, which is quite a relaxing experience after a long day of walking and exploring Kyoto. However, the absolute best part about our stay was very attentive staff who put efforts to ensure our luggages reach us at our upcoming destination. We would love to stay here again.
We loved our stay at Sakara Gion. It's a spacious two-bedroom machiya house, perfect for a family. Located in the heart of Gion district, a short walk to Tatsumi bridge, Shinbashi-dori, Yasaka Shrine, Kenninji Temple and Gion corner, but on a quiet street. We saw geisha twice. The host was friendly and responsive, giving us tips on the best local restaurants. Two metro stations are close by. The house has a lived-in feel, which is great for families.
The room is huge! The subway station is a very short walking distance, so convenient, lots of supermarkets and restaurants nearby. Having a kitchen in the room made things so much easier and the room even has a smart tv, so we got to stream our favourite shows when we just wanted to wind down from a long day outside. The staff are so nice and helpful, this is by far the best out of the 5 hotels I have stayed in while in Japan.
First and foremost the location of the hotels is most convenient for commuting. The transit hub containing Kyoto JR station, Metro station and Bus terminus is just a min of walk away. The transit hub has great affordable food outlets for dine-in and take away options. This makes the hotel one of the best in Kyoto. The hotel gave us a free upgrade to a large room with a view of Kyoto tower. It made us very happy.
very new ryokan, many local guest. premium and luxury, the room is good but the pillow is not so comfy you need to be there early to be anle to choose pillow at the pillow station. Onsen was the best part private onsen are very good, even the public onsen is big enough so it is not crowded even many people use at the same time. there are free ramen at night which is superb
Exceptional accommodation in a fantastic location. Short walk to the main shops and station. The room was spacious and very clean and comfortable. Great mattresses! The staff were very professional and lovely. Great security for guests and amenities such as coin op washing machines are available. This was the best hotel I stayed in during my visit to Japan.
Loved this house that has been refurbished beautifully. The tea room was lovely and the beds were the best we slept on in our three week holiday. Great convenient supermarket around the corner. Was great to be staying in a house amongst others rather than a faceless hotel. Quiet street not too far from main station or Kyoto or town centre.
One of the best places for value we stayed at during our Japan trip. Hotel Elcient's location was great, you can see it the instant you exit the station. It was also close to 7/11, busses and major sights. Hotel staff were very helpful and made our stay all the smoother. Definitely somewhere I'll chose to stay at again :)
The location was amazing, a nice 15-20 mins walk from Gion-Shijo/Kawaramachi area. Convenience store is also right below the hotel. The best part: there was a coffee machine by the receptionist area brewing coffee and espresso for free. Would definitely book it again for my next trip!
A great modern hotel with a hostel feel to it. Very clean and everything was new. Good location near the main station but on the much quieter side. Maybe one of the best showers I have had in a hotel. Free bike rental was a cherry on the top.
Subway station directly below hotel.
A la Carte Breakfast was really good. The presentation and quality of the ingredients was excellent.
Sumpton Coffee Roasters (located across the lobby) were best coffees I had in Japan - SO GOOD.
