Bad Gastein used to be the place to be in the mountains...
Bad Gastein used to be the place to be in the mountains until 60 years ago. The architecture reflects this, beautiful belle epoque buildings everywhere.
Unfortunately Bad Gastein wanted to become more "modern" in the 60-70ies. So they destroyed the village with awful buildings. The elegance was lost.
Since 20 years those mistakes are being corrected and from my point of view they managed to hide the worst "architectural disturbances" in the meanwhile. And you can already feel it: it´s alive again and again gives one the impression to be in an elegant, timeless place.
Also it seems that a new generation of hoteliers and restaurant owners is bringing some freshness into the village.
So i can clearly recommend: go and see!

We had skiied in the Ski Amade area before but not in Bad Gastein - it was a very special surprise. We chose it because the resort is at high altitude, and we were taking a chance on good snow conditions, mid December, but it exceeded our expectations. We'll definitely be back!!!

We came during off-season - so a lot of places were closed. But we still found excellent restaurants, and things to do - and, to be honest, enjoyed the quiet. There were too many great restaurants to mention - every experience was unique, either because of the tasty menu, the views or the ambience.
The walk along the waterfall is amazing! We walked up the path for the first time at night, coming home after dinner. It’s well maintained and well lit - my mom did it with ease at 83 years young!

Badgastein is a little gem in the Austrian Alps, with many options for a rejuvenating holiday. The paths in the mountains are enchanting, there is a ski center for winter sports, while the thermal waters feed the spas of many hotels, as well as the big municipal spa of this small town. There are regular connections by train to other parts of Austria and by bus to neighbouring villages.
The only "disadvantage" is that the typical cuisine of the area is not inspirational and the dining experience is not that high compared to the other services offered in the area.

We skipped one day skiing and went to the Alpentherme at the Bad Hofgastein, it was a great and relaxing experience. But too hot inside. The children under 16 could not use tha sauna complex, not much to do for teen boys there.
A very cosy hotel with a picturesque location and worth mentioning, always helpful and smiling staff. Without luxurious amenities, for those looking for ones, but meeting all the expectations of tourists focused on active recreation - skiing, running and mountain hiking. One of the biggest surprises is undoubtedly the delicious menu served in the hotel´s restaurant, throughout the week we sticked to it in the evenings, visiting the Bad Gastein village only during the day.
Excellent food with a variety of choices for breakfast and nice dinner menu, clean and spacious rooms, good spa facilities. Superb staff at restaurant for breakfast/dinner, making us feel very comfortable and relaxed at meal times. The ski bus station was right there in front of the hotel; we used our car mainly for transport as Bad Gastein/Hofgastein were within a few minutes of reach with some great scenery.
Very close to the train station and ski lift, walking distance to the old town of Bad Gastein. Very friendly staff, decent breakfast. I stayed in a recently renovated room. Another befriended couple however stayed in an older room for the same price. So perhaps worth asking to be put in the newer rooms. All together absolutely nothing to complain. Just the pool is perhaps a bit small for the peak season.
The hotel is very lovely. Not exactly in centre of Bad Gastein, but very close by foot.
There is also sauna available after trips or whole day on snow. Our room was very comfy, spacefull and quiet.
Breakfast was delicious with many option to choose - including fresh and quality food. I can highly recomend this hotel and also hope to visit them again!
The apartment is very comfortable and clean. Everything looks new. And there is a lot of space and cabinets to put your belongings. There is floor heating, what is very cosy in winter.
City of Bad Gastein is a minute by car, and the bus stop is also there in a few steps.
The host is very nice and helpful. We spent a beautiful winter holiday there.
The 3 saunas and relaxation area were great. The relaxation area had a lot of different spaces to use. The infinity pool on the roof for was very cool. We went out there on a sunny but cold morning and we had gorgeous views of the mountains. In the hotel room there were towels, dressing gowns and flip flops. The shower and bathroom were great too.
Pool and sauna were great, I adore dogs and loved walking through the hotel to meet the dogs (they’re off leash mostly so if you have allergies, don’t come here). I was on a easy floor with ease to bring my bike into the room. The restaurant was amazing for both dinner and breakfast.
Location and view from the hotel is excellent... Beyond anything that can be explained!!!
The owner Rene is a very good host.
Rooms are super clean...breakfast was again very well prepared.
Facilities at the hotel offer you all the comfort and convenience that might be needed.
The location is excellent for the ski centre at Bad Gastein. A nice heated area for your boots and skis at the rear. Right across from the railway station and beside the spa. Room was clean and spacious and a nice balcony. Staff friendly and left luggage available too.
The staff are amazing, Its owner operated and it has all the right personal touches one would expect from an amazing hotel like this. It really gave us the 'Grand budapest' vibes and we felt really special. It's perfect for a special ski holiday with your partner
Amazing place - very cozy, spacious and stylish. It was great to have 3 bathrooms and 8 of us enjoyed six nights at this Chalet very much. Would definitely like to stay here again if we will return to Bad Gastein for winter sport activities.
The hotel is located in a great location, close to all attractions and ski lifts. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful. The food in the restaurant is good and the welnes is also ok. In general, the hotel is good
Our host was very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was delicious! The hotel is lovely, authentic Austrian charm. Beautiful views from the window, very near the waterfall. A good location, not far from the station.
Friendly staff, quiet location, plenty big and comfortable studio apartment for 2, good value for the money, could stay for less than 7 nights during busy ski season, close to Bad Gastein, restaurant had good meals.
An old, beautiful building. The hotel is original and I have never visited one like it before. This visit was an experience in itself and will surely surprise you. I recommend to try.
