The main attraction is the national park, where there are a lot of options for more or less demanding activities from a gentle boat trip to a two-day hike through the jungle. The rangers are brilliant. in town there are restaurants ranging from cheap to high-end, elegant handicraft shops, elephant parks, ayurvedic massage places - whatever you fancy, really. The weather is benign, as it's quite elevated. Transport connections (by bus) are pretty good from the central bus station. There are also western-style cafes where you can hang out and read; Wildernest is green and peaceful, while Chrissie's even has cappuccino!

It's a calm and serene destination, not like other hill stations.
I am a regular at Grandma's kitchen. It's a simple place nothing fancy but great local food. Kumily / Thekkady is not a huge place so getting around is easy. It's a cozy little town to chill if you don't want to run around sightseeing

Thekkady can be explored in two to three days.
Thekkady can be explored in two to three days. Enjoy nature walk but sighing of animals is very rare. There are huge trees which are appx 500 years old.
Travelers can enjoy local cuisine and elephant ride. There is opportunity to watch Kalaripayattu ( martial art) and Kathakali performance.

Absolutely stands as a demonstration for the saying “God’s own country”. Serene and bountiful of nature and some good species of wild life. The Thekkady boat trip is a ‘never-miss’ activity and the early morning off-roading trip in Mahindra Commander SUV 🚙 is phenomenal. Great place for a vacation with family and friends. One of the treasures ie the Periyar Tiger Reserve Forest. Don’t miss. I just crossed off one number in my bucket list. But beware of scammers. They are all over there.

The boat ride was a good experience as we spotted elephants, gaur, deer, wild boar and monkeys. The boat jetty should have better facilities as the crowds can be difficult to navigate for the elderly and small children.
This was one of my best stay experiences. Mr. Abbas is extremely helpful and kept following up with me till I reached Kumily. He came to pick me up as I was a solo female traveller. He helped me plan my days in Thekkady and arranged tickets for all experiences. His place is in a central location with the bus stand, market & eateries at a walking distance with clean & comfortable rooms. The entrance to the Periyar National Park is a 10 minute drive. I highly recommend his homestay.
Without question: Courteous and friendly staff. The BEST!
Ideally located in the middle of the tourist destinations. Also walkable distance to the main market and surrounding restaurants.
Hotel facilities and quick response to requests, no matter how trivial till late night
They also help arrange sight seeing tickets at very nominal rates... surprisingly cheaper than the actual ticket costs (e.g. elephant trail ride etc.)
I recently stayed at a homestay in Thekkady, and it was a truly peaceful retreat. Surrounded by nature's beauty, this homestay offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The cozy accommodations and warm hospitality made our stay memorable. Whether you're looking to explore the wildlife or simply unwind in a tranquil setting, this homestay is the perfect choice for a relaxing getaway.
George is a very friendly and helpful host. He assisted us in securing tickets to Periyar National Park, as they do not accept foreign bank cards. Breakfast is hearty and delicious. Dinner is a more simple affair, but the food is good nonetheless. Our room (Mango) was spacious and had amazing views. While we were there, two new rooms were nearly finished. This is a great home stay for the Thekkady area.
Place is so neat and clean and the view from balcony is very beautiful with cardamom farming, some pets like duck, beautifull cat and some dogs, owner's family is very lovely, sweet and humble,i've just stayed for 1 days due to lack of time but i would like to stay more than 1 month in future ifever i have time. This is highly recommend place if you are planning to have vaccation in thekkady.
We had a wonderful stay at Keys Prima, which stands out for its modern design, spacious showers, and warm ambiance. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, making our stay even more enjoyable. I must highlight the delicious dishes prepared by Chef Sarath - truly a culinary delight! I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and look forward to my next visit.
The staff was great, the rooms were large, tidy and had a TV and mini fridge. The weather was cold and the AC only worked on cold so they gave us a space heater. The highlight was definitely the food!! The daily food demos with the chef were amazing and we really enjoyed it! We also ate in the hotel for breakfast and dinner and the food was amazing!!
Uncle & Aunty
Both are so caring and sweet. We had wonderful night stay.
Home and locality is soothing. Don't hesitate to book this place if you need to experience homely stay.
Hotel is fine but this is best way to experience home stay in kerala.
Best I like was it's Greenery. It's like a jungle, in between cardamom plantations. Owner of the property is very sweet family. Offered welcome drink , morning tea and very yummy South Indian breakfast. Not far from main attractions of Thekkady.
I loved the atmosphere of the hotel, friendly and welcoming staff. Rooms are soo good and refreshing. My friends do really like the infrastructure of the hotel and customer service. We booked for one day stay but it was beyond the expectations.
They were extremely accommodating and allowed us to check in early at like 10am. We got to hotel super early and I didn’t wanna wait. So this was a big plus. The sevice was exceptional as well. Would definitely send a friend there.
The lady owner was very polite and soft spoken. Room was very clean and hygenic. She provided with complimentary tea. Location is little towards forest area because of which there were lot of bees all night around the rooms
Lovely treehouse in Thekkady, clean, quiet and very comfortable with a lovely outside balcony overlooking a forested area. Lovely breakfast in the morning on the main house balcony with idli, omelette, fruit and bread.
The stay was amaing and maintened well. It feels like a dream home. Akshara helped us with everything she can do for us. One of the memorable moment in thekkady is the stay and places we have visited.
The location was excellent - easy to get to Thekkady by tuk tuk. George’s Mum cooks wonderful Keralan food and not expensive. The view from our balcony was superb especially in the afternoon sun.
The hotel is very good, clean and at the centre of the city,The very good restaurant on the ground floor,The hotel manager arranged all sightseeing at reasonable cost, good car parking is there
Great food straight up. Nice big rooms. Best thing was the staff were excellent and very friendly. Great experience at the property . Truly the best place to stay at in Thekkady.
