Boasting a garden, Mackaya Bella Country Lodge is situated in Champagne Valley in the KwaZulu-Natal region, 32 km from Winterton Museum and 48 km from Spioenkop Nature Reserve. Our stay at Mackaya Bella was sensational. Our family of five had the whole lodge to ourselves as we booked out three huts making the experience feel luxurious and intimate. Patrick and Lynn were the sweetest hosts who catered to our every need. Patrick was kind enough to act as a tour guide going above and beyond to walk us to the phenomenal Bushman cave paintings and stunning freshwater pool along the river. This hike was located on their property so there was no need to drive all the way out to see the nature (although leaving the property to explore was not a problem either). They also allowed us to spend time with their beautiful dogs Bella and Little Bear which helped us with the separation from our own beloved pets. We felt very safe. The nature reserve around the lodge was stunning. At your doorstep is a view of the Drakensberg mountains and surrounding wildlife - the perfect backdrop. Plenty of wild animals roam the property and you can see the trails they leave behind. Right near the lodge is a small waterfall that flows almost all year round. The water in this area is as pure as pure can be. Our rooms were very cosy and comfortable. There were very little mosquitoes when we were there considering the fresh water was constantly flowing on the property. There was a fireplace inside the main lodge as well as outside with the mountain views that allowed us to enjoy each space in the evening (even with loadshedding). Lynn and Patrick accommodated our dietary requests (vegetarian and vegan) giving us wonderful breakfast options where other places would be lacking. We visited Champaigne Castle Hotel out of curiosity. Albeit very nice, we were extremely happy that we chose Mackaya Bella instead. We felt so at home at this wonderful lodge and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to visit the Drakensberg area. We hope that Patrick and Lynn will see many more guests this year as they could not be more deserving.

Located near Winterton in the Champagne Valley, The Goodland Cottages have barbecue facilities and a garden, as well as free WiFi. First of all, I love the place, it’s so quiet, this bees I love everything about it.

Located in Rosetta, 43 km from Hilton, Glen Ormond Country House boasts an outdoor pool and views of the mountain. Rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. Peaceful stay on beautiful grounds. This is a wonderful location to disconnect in.

Located within 5.3 km of Monks Cowl Country Club and 25 km of Winterton Museum, Graceland Self-Catering Cottages provides rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Winterton. The location and view was absolutely stunning. There is so much to do in the area if you enjoy the outdoors! The accommodation was very spacious and the outdoor lapa area was amazing. Just wish we had been there a few day longer to experience better weather and swim in the pool etc.

Berghouse and Cottages is situated in a rural setting, high up in the Northern Drakensberg Hills, 30 km from Bergville. Free WiFi is available in each cottage. The location for the cottages was amazing. The view is breathtaking. Comfy beds. Tasty food. We brought our own Braai materials for one night and also sampled their in house prepared breakfast, all excellent. Braai facilities are great and kitchen is equipped with everything you need. Great activities including swimming in a pool with one of the best vistas you could hope for worldwide. We also enjoyed horseback riding. Only a 25 min drive to Royal Natal Park where is was easy to do an afternoon hike to the Cascades and back. Just an outstanding stay :)

Offering a garden and inner courtyard view, Milestone Farm House is set in Balgowan, 4.1 km from Bosch Hoek Golf Club and 25 km from Midmar Dam. A very hearty breakfast-great selection and very tasty

Situated just 18 km from Bosch Hoek Golf Club, Hydrangea Guest House provides accommodation in Nottingham Road with access to a garden, a tennis court, as well as bicycle parking. Every room has its own bathroom. The house is very comfortable and effort had been made to put out flowers for our arrival. The garden is huge and beautiful!

Offering a garden and garden view, Pleasant Places By Sanaandi is set in Lidgetton, 17 km from Bosch Hoek Golf Club and 17 km from Midmar Dam. Excellent location with beautiful surroundings. Love the presence of trees and the river.

Set just 24 km from Monks Cowl Country Club, Cwebile Guesthouse provides accommodation in Winterton with access to a garden, a shared lounge, as well as full-day security. The view and outside area were spectacular. The room was very beautiful and sophisticated. Johan, Louie and Anika really took great care of us and were very helpful and so sweet. It really felt like home.

Located just 8.2 km from Monks Cowl Country Club, Ondini Guest House features accommodation in Winterton with access to a garden, a shared lounge, as well as a shared kitchen. Excellent Host and accommodation in a beautiful area. The location is perfect, a little off for a very peaceful atmosphere. The house is huge and offers everything necessary for a great stay.
