It was a very pretty village/ Town in the mountains. Suitable for walkers with lovely cafe's and restaurants and useful supply base before starting the camino. Local people were very friendly and quirky as well. It is full of character and history.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

Our second stay here and again it didn’t disappoint. Absolutely perfect accommodation. Lovely greeting from the host and we asked for the same room again and it was reserved for us with no trouble at all. Spotlessly clean and comfy bed. Good sized bathroom and shower. We love Saint Jean pied de Port for our 1 night stay on road trip to Portugal. Cafe de la paix is absolutely excellent for food, service and atmosphere. Many thanks for another perfect stay. 100/10 again.
I stayed here before beginning my first Camino, so this was my first Albergue experience. I hope the rest are at least as good. My bed (not a bunk bed) was in an alcove with privacy curtains I could close. There was an electrical outlet and a basket in the alcove so charging my devices was easy and convenient. I enjoyed the quiet common room and the simple adequate breakfast the next morning. I would definitely stay here again.
The location couldn't be better, right in the center of town, but still pretty quiet. The friendliness of the staff is very nice as well. Very nice that the guy spoke English. There is waterboiler in the room, coffee and tea is supplied. Romantic atmosphere, if you like traditional French hotels, you are in the right spot.
Great location in a quiet area but close enough to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port that walking is no issue. The hosts are kind people and helped us with everything we needed. This is one of those properties where the photos seem too good to be true but they're absolutely accurate.
Lovely old house converted into hotel. Good sized room renovated to include a kitchenette, small table and chairs and bathroom. Good bed, lots of hot water. We had a lovely mountain view. Stayed 2 nights and was a great place to get ready to begin our Camino de Santiago.
The volunteer Hospitelaro from Finland was very friendly & accommodating. She held a brief ceremony on the day of our departure on the Camino de Santiago Frances. The breakfast & accommodations were outstanding. The porch balcony has a stunning view of the Pyrenees.
One of the best hostels/albergues I've ever staid in. The hosts, Pascal and Joe are simply wonderful people who will do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Great hosts, great food, great accommodations.
Location was perfect, on the main street near places we wanted to visit for our start on the Camino. We had a warm welcome when we arrived and they were able to accommodate our earlier than planned arrival.
Hotel receptionist was very welcoming and friendly.
Lovely position and great sitting on the balcony overlooking the mountains.
Good breakfast, very relaxed
