The general ambience and atmosphere. The food was good and the bar had a good choice of beers. The person who checked me in was helpful in that he locked my bike securely in the cellar.

Breakfast was exceptional. Louise loves to bake and all of it was delicious. Louise and Martin were impeccable host and their home was comfortable and quiet. We stayed in 8 locations during our 2 week trip to Scotland and their B&B was hands down our favorite.

Ballater is a lovely little town, very close to the Balmoral Estate so excellent location if you are planning to visit the Castle and grounds of the royal estate. It has an excellent selection of restaurants, coffee shops and boutique / gift shops to choose from. Free parking in most places and some lovely walks that are all clearly marked that follow the river and circulate the town.

Ballater is a beautiful historic town.
Ballater is a beautiful historic town. It has lovely architecture, a Victorian train station where Queen Victoria used to travel to. Lots of restaurants, pubs, and the townspeople are very nice. It's close to Balmoral and was a perfect location to drive around and see the sites.

Quaint little village with just enough amenities with plenty of activities in and around the place. There's a coop shop for groceries, and some nice restaurant choices too. There's a small petrol station here as well so it's useful for fuelling up if you plan to drive any great distance. I'd happily come back here, but it's a small place so it's limited in some ways if you plan to stay for any great length of time.
We ate from two restaurants here, the New Shanghai Chinese takeaway, and the Alexandra Hotel restaurant. Both were very satisfying meals and good value for money, and I'd happily come back to both. The village is fairly small, so it's very walkable if you want to mill around and explore the pubs, shops and cafes.

Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside.
Lovely picturesque village in Royal Deeside. Shop fronts, the streets and the buildings are immaculately kept. Has many great places to eat and drink. Great walk along the old Deeside railway line. I went on a drench November midweek day, so there wasn't a lot happening, but the surroundings are nice. Fantastic place for solo travellers, couples and people who like the great outdoors.

Ballater is a fantastic area, such beautiful surroundings with lots to do. Lots of walking and cycling options.
The town itself has beautiful buildings and architecture.
I love the area so much, I'm looking to buy a property and move there permanently.
My hosts, Tony and Natalie recently remodeled their property. Everything is new. My room was spacious and very comfortable. I don't eat breakfast, but Natalie prepared some of the best coffee I've had in Scotland! Tony was very helpful with restaurant recommendations. Both were lovely and totally focused on my having a wonderful experience at their property. It is ideally located just a short walk from the city center and all the restaurants and shops. Highly recommend this to travelers in this area.

Staying at Craggan was a wonderful introduction to Scotland. Our hosts, Martyn and Louise Barrow, were warm and welcoming. They were very helpful and informative regarding the region....sites, activities, and regional lore.
The breakfasts were delicious, and our room was spacious and beautifully appointed. The view was pastoral. It was peaceful and restorative.
Thank you, dear hosts, for providing the best experience.
Steve and Beth were wonderful hosts and very helpful. They answered all our questions, gave us great suggestions for places to eat and even suggested a great route for us to take to our next destination. In addition, Ballater is a beautiful little town and we found ourselves wishing we had more time to spend there. VERY Highly recommended!!!
The location was so good in the heart of Ballater. The parking was easy with a large carpark just over the road and a Co-op nearby to purchase breakfast items. The rooms are above a lovely Italian restaurant which welcomed us each night we were there . Lovely warm service and good food.
Walking distance to almost everything I needed in the village shopping area. The proximity to Balmoral Castle really surprised me too. Well manicured and very quiet neighbourhood, exactly what I wanted for a good break. Full marks to the self-catering facilities and cottage arrangement.
Great and well equipped cottage in beautiful Ballater. Fab location for exploring the surrounding area and the little town has all amenities you need. The hosts are very accommodating and communication was very good. We would definitely go back.
The hotel and staff were very welcoming. The room was great. Lovely natural materials (linen bedding etc) and attention to detail. Great location and wonderful to be able to borrow the bikes for a ride in the local area before we headed off.
Loved the small hotel vibes of the Alexandra hotel. On top of a great location, rooms were super comfy and extremely clean, staff were lovely, breakfast superb and their bar serves delicious pub meals (their cheesecake is so tasty).
Looking for a place for a couple of nights for the Braemar Games. Good location outside of Ballater. Big rooms, handy kitchenette, great beds and an awesome shower kept us all happy. Great staff always offering to help
We enjoyed our stay at the Auld Kirk. Kevin and Helen were wonderful hosts. The room was beautiful and spotless, and the food was delicious. We loved visiting Ballater and enjoyed running the Seven Bridges Trail.
Stunning location, easy access to nearby walking routes and not far from Ballater. Hot tub was brilliant even in mid-January and couldn't believe how toasty the house stayed once it had warmed up.
Location is great in the center of Ballater. Both the facilities and the rooms where amazing and breakfast was stunning with a service that you would expect from a 4-5 star hotel
Breakfast - fantastic choice and great quality
Location - superb for exploring Ballater and abundance of local walks. Also well located for exploring this area of Scotland.
High quality of finish. Well equipped for a glamping experience. Compact but comfortable. Excellent location to explore Ballater, Braemar and the outdoors in the area.
