We had an excellent cooked to order breakfast. Our room was spacious, quiet and coomfortable. Hotel is well back from the main road so there was no traffic noise. We had a lovely cooked to order dinner on arrival and the staff could not have been more helpful.

The view was absolutely stunning, picturesque from the balcony.
The rooms were VERY spacious and had ample space for a family of 4 - we had 2 bedroom with an ensuite in 1 and they were big!
Kitchen had standard appliances available for a small kitchenette and did what we needed. There was no baby chair but was provided as soon as we asked.
Staff were really helpful (although unsure if there was a travel cot and meant our wee one had to sleep in the big bed but that was mainly our fault) we didn’t try the restaurant or the bar but the staff seemed engaging and friendly when serving from what I viewed.
Felt very comfortable and safe, important with 2 children.

We loved everything about it! Our biggest thing was how dog friendly the place was, I've never stayed somewhere where I genuinely felt like my dog was as welcome as we were. The host told us about walks we could go on and offered use of a secure field. Location was perfect, remote enough for a quiet weekend away but close enough to local amenities. The hot tub was a lovely addition too. We wished we could have stayed longer it is so peaceful and made for a perfect relaxing break.
Just wanted to let people know many of the things we had read in negative reviews before going had changed:
There are rugs on the concrete floor
Sofa bed has been updated to a lovely cosy sofa
Pull out bed upstairs
Heater and fan available

The property is very clean and modern throughout, love the Neon signs. Clean outside. Great rooms very big, fantastic bath in room for a romantic stay or a up lifting solo night. Room was clean, decorated to a high standard even if there was some noticeable improvements to some painted walls in the corridors up the stairs, it did not effect how we felt about the property, we loved how each room is named after historic places in and around Dalbeattie. Great big TV, when windows were shut up couldn’t hear a thing but we loved having ours open to hear the river and the quietness off the street. Great WiFi, staff were amazing, helpful and friendly. Breakfast was included and my gosh it was incredible. Extremely dog friendly which is a plus, I would 100% recommend to anyone and we would stay again!

The only positive thing you can say about Castle Douglas is that it is a convenient place from which you can travel and explore Dumfries and Galloway.
I spent one day watching the red kites feeding at Bellymack Hill Farm, and the day I left I took the opportunity to travel to the Mull of Galloway because I was relatively close to it.
Don't plan to stay in Castle Douglas in order to explore the town itself, there is nothing to see.

A lovely little town with plenty of shops which appealed to the wife. The natives were friendly and we enjoyed the banter. For the fellows don't miss the brewery at the bottom of town, Great tap, some great beers. Came home within lots of meat from each of the butchers shops.

Castle Douglas is a favourite place where we spend some time on any trip which demands a stop off to take advantage of the independent retail stores. We know staff are friendly and cheerful, don't hassle customers and always give a warm welcome.
After some shopping there is quite a number of places to stop for coffee and cake or even a more substantial meal.

Castle Douglas is a very nice little town, with many nice old shops. A great place for a day away.
The town is very clean and the people are friendly
It is in the right location for travelling around SW Scotland and seeing what is there
We all loved the location, it was really secure for our dogs too who could run around outside to their hearts content. We saw deer, red kites flying and pheasants (the dogs were really confused by them). The hosts were brilliant, we had really unseasonable warm weather for March in Scotland and they brought out the garden furniture for us and offered to bring out the barbecue too, nothing was too much bother. It’s close to Castle Douglas too, with plenty of places to go within easy reach in the car.
The cottage is nestled down beside an old bridge over the Dee and has a lovely garden that overlooks the river. The hosts ensure you a warm welcome and tea and scones were offered on arrival.
Breakfast is definitely 5 star and is served in the warm conservatory overlooking the garden.
There are lovely walks by the river and you can go to Kirkcudbright or Castle Douglas for a pleasant evening meal. Both locations are within a 20min drive.
This was a fantastic stay for us. Mandy couldn't have been more welcoming and hospitable. Our room was modern, large and immaculate with great facilities. Breakfast was also lovely and cooked to our requirements. The location is so beautiful, wonderful views of Dumfries and Galloway, and location was only a couple of miles from Castle Douglas. This place is a hidden gem, and highly recommend.
The hotel is clean, quiet and comfortable. An excellent stay for a value for money base to explore the beautiful area, or just for one night. It’s not really a hotel; more a licensed B&B. Suited me, as I like to explore and there are at least 4 excellent restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast was excellent, good quality ingredients cooked well and pleasantly served. All you need.
The location in the farmland was beautiful. Walks in the green fields with many sheep and cows. The accommodation was comfortable, good bed, quiet, sunny sitting room looking out over the hills. Walks on the coast are easily accessible and there are a number of good restaurants in Castle Douglas. We appreciated the hospitality of Irene, who was taking care of the guests.
- the staff were fantastic and obviously care about the community and visitors. locals in the pubs below were great people to talk to as well. breakfast was accommodating and delicious. we all really enjoyed our time in Castle Douglas. Rooms aren’t exactly modern, but I don’t think that should be a problem for anyone, accommodations are more than adequate.
Stunning location on the edge of Galloway Forest Park, with incredible wildlife to be seen just in the garden (countless birds, rabbits, even a fox!). Great base for exploring the surrounding hills, coastline and towns. Rachael and Matt were super friendly and gave us a little tour of the area around the house when we arrived. Would love to go back!
We enjoyed a lovely stay at Inn on the Loch recently, and appreciated the well-appointed room in the separate accommodation block. The inn is very relaxed and in a wonderful location on the water. Breakfast was very good, and served in the relaxed dining area. Thankyou.
The owners seem to have taken an old hotel building that had fallen into dereliction, and brought it back into use. That in itself is an admirable achievement.
The hotel is well located in the centre of Castle Douglas with shops and restaurants nearby.
Very warm and friendly welcome from owner. Nothing too much trouble, incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.
Convenient location close to Castle Douglas
Room comfortable and a good size
Delicious breakfast and evening meal.
Made to feel inferior by waitress who said our room option meant we could not choose from residents breakfast menu despite my argument that, like everyone around us in the restaurant, we are still hotel residents!!
Parking available near flat. Large kitchen. Great enclosed garden for the dog. Central location for travelling to beach, tourist areas, and lots of cafes/restaurants in Castle Douglas.
Altho the location was quite remote it was only a 15 min drive to Castle Douglas town & where the lodge is situated looking out into the field was just fantastic and felt very private
This is a nice little hotel that is much nicer than the first impression you get on arrival. Breakfast was excellent. Room was clean and the balcony over the water was very inviting.
