It’s a bit remote! Getting there by train is an experience, but once at Ubako station, it’s a short walk. We left our suitcases at Odawara, which made it easier. Views were sensational. Food is good and there is plenty of choice. Our room was very comfortable and spacious.

This place is really lovely. Being in amongst the trees creates a very relaxing environment. The room was a good size with comfy beds and a nice seating area. There was a decent coffee machine in the room as well as a speaker to play music. The big window with a view of the trees was amazing - especially when the deer visit at dusk. Nice and quiet place.
Breakfast was delicious and very comprehensive (lots of choices if you want western style or japanese style). All the staff are very friendly and accommodating (especially Ayako). The onsen was nice and I particularly liked that it was open all night as I prefer to use it alone or with few people in.
The shared chill out area and games room were something I wasn't expecting but a nice surprise. We made good use of this space and enjoyed the welcome drink - a nice touch. The hotel have electric bikes for hire for a very reasonable rate which we used to cycle to the Botanical Gardens.
A few previous guests have commented about the rooms needing a paint but it actually looks like they have chosen a rustic style of decor and it didn't bother us at all. It works with the industrial style of polished concrete in the bathroom. We were also almost put off by previous guests suggesting that the location is too far from anything. In reality it's a 5 minute walk down the driveway to a bus stop and a 20 min ride to Gora where you can connect to most places very easily.
We really loved our stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again if we are back in Japan.

Clean, comfortable, friendly hotel/hostel. Breakfast was excellent - lots of variety & quantity. Beds were comfortable. It was great having the option to eat dinner at the hotel as not all the local restaurants are open for dinner. Photos on the listing are accurate. So easy to catch the ferry from this location plus see the shrine, the old road & outpost from the 1680 era. A supermarket is across the road.

One of the highlights of our trip to Japan was visiting Hakone. We would wholeheartedly recommend staying in Gora and doing the loop up to the mountain and then on the sightseeing boat. The Hakone Free-Pass offers great value for money.

The hakone free pass is excellent and a must for all visitors. There is an abundance of sites and tourist offerings about the area. Hakone is a fun area.
Hakone is a fun area. It’s very easy to get around on buses, cable car, and ropeway (gondola). The FreePass is a must. The lake and Mt Fuji are beautiful but so is the surrounding forest. The museums are quite nice too. We especially had a fun time at the Open Air Museum.
Amazing service and the location next to the ropeway allows for easy transportation around hakone and access to lake ashinoko. Much better than traveling around by bus which can get stuck in traffic. Meals and service were top notch and the private Onsens were fantastic. They have several you can reserve which direct views of the forest. We reserved the rooftop Onsen with panoramic views of the mountain valley and it was unforgettable. We also had a private Onsen on the deck of our room which was wonderful to wake up and soak in.
Hotel is about 13 minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto Station; a quite steep walk but still manageable and you get to enjoy the scenery along the way. My family and I really enjoyed the stay. The service was exceptional, the meals included are delicious. (I was worried about the portion might be too small, but it turned out to be very satisfying, even the kid meals are very thoughtful) the room is spacious, clean and has a private onsen! Also the futon bed is comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.
The room (family room with tatami area) is generously spacious, with an amazing onsen facility next door. I love that guests can change into traditional outfits and walk around the hotel wearing them. The staffs are helpful and kind.
I am grateful to one of the reviewers here who mentioned that the hotel is accessible from Hotel Okada via an elevator. This saved us from having to walk up the steep hill every time we wanted to go to and from the hotel.
The shuttle to Hakone Yumoto station was also a great addition.
While the location of this ryokan is not so convenient(we went there by Odakyu bus from Shinjuku, but there was a pickup service from hotel to nearest bus stop “Plaza hotel Mae”), my mom and I had a great time in their onsen with good food and the best facilities. All staff are well trained and very polite, every single thing they put in the room was delightful and thoughtful. It was worth to spend my vacation. I would like to go back again when I have a chance!!
This onsen hotel was amazing! The staff were incredibly friendly and outgoing whenever we had any questions, and were more than willing to help us with getting accustomed to the area. The facilities were clean, the views were beautiful, and the onsen was extremely relaxing.
I would recommend this onsen hotel to anyone who's looking to stay in Hakone, and strongly encourage folks who are visiting Japan from overseas to give it a look.
This hotel was a bit of a surprise. Very retro the room was an old style ryokan limited amenities in your room.
A private Onsen hot spring which was amazing. The best part of my stay was the owners they went above and beyond to help us they drove us to restaurants for dinner and other sightseeing locations they even drove my family to the local train station It was such a great stay.
The accommodation was in a good location right next to the train station for transport to arrive into Hakone and to get buses to Lake Ashi/Mt Kintoki area, for restaurants an shops. The beds were mats on the floor and were very comfortable. We used the onsen during our stay which was a lovely experience. We recommend a stay here. The staff were very helpful and kind.
The Mikawaya Ryokan is a well-preserved historic hot spring inn located in a central part of the mountainous Hakone region. The Tozan bus stops right in front, making it easy to hop on with the tourist-friendly Odakyu Freepass. The onsen baths are well-kept and are soothing. The meals are exceptional. The ryokan staff speak good English and are very hospitable.
The scenery surrounding the hotel was priceless. The calm, surreal and breathtaking view of the lake, which makes up for the distance that the hotel is located from the Hakone town (about 20 mins drive). Onsen was great, food was delicious and the staff were helpful. We (travelling with parents and 2 year-old) love our 2 night stays there!
Hotel is well located and just next to Lake and main area of Lake Ashi in Hakone. Bus stop, Boat terminal, Restaurents, Cafes etc are less than 1 Minute walk. Property is little old but it is nice. Dinner and Breakfast is avaiable at Hotel but we did not eat at Hotel. Onsen is avaible and it was nice.
Overall happy with the stay.
Our stay at Fujiya Hotel was a highlight of our trip to Japan. Everything about this hotel is an absolute delight - the beautiful historical features, the stunning rooms, the luxurious private onsen, lovely staff, and beautiful gardens. It is also very well located close to the train station. Very highly recommended.
Affordable Onsen Guest House for visiting Hakone. Enjoy the outdoor Onsen with the sound of the river. The common area is very cosy with plenty of equipment for cooking and amenities for entertaining, A coin washing machine is available for cleaning your clothes. A nice collection of mangas if you can read japanese.
Beautiful hotel with amazing views of lake Ashi. Foot spa area at the front is a perfect spot to have a drink before dinner in the evening. very convenient location only 5 mins walk to the ropeway and pirate ship dock. would recommend getting a room with a small private onsen on the balcony. we really enjoyed it
A secret tipp if you are looking for a traditional Japanese styled hotel in Hakone.
Professional staff with friendly service, yummy Japanese breakfast and dinner with beautiful set up. Above all, the Onsen experience especially the privat slots was just amazing.
P.S. the bus stop is just in front of the hotel.
We loved our stay at Mount View Hakone the staff was extremely kind and accommodating. Our room was cozy and clean. And the onsens both private and public were great experiences. This is a fantastic deal for the amount of amenities the hotel has. I would recommend staying here to anyone.
The hotel is located in beautiful nature, the view was phantastic! We could see Mt Fuji and the lake.
Our tradional Japanese style room and the onsen were amazing as well, the hotel staff was very friendly.
I will come back again in the future!
Thank you very much
The hotel is located close to the Hakone Yumoto station. This means it is easy to reach and you can explore the rest of the Hakone area via train.
The public bath/onsen in the hotel is great.
I tried the Chinese restaurant in the hotel and the food was great.
I love everything about the hotel. It’s located in a beautiful area and it has an amazing very well maintained garden that gives a spectacular view!
The private onsen was amazing, especially after a long day around Hakone. Will definitely stay again.
The staff was exceptional. Courteous, friendly, and responsive. The rooms were large and wonderful. The spa (onsen) was a delight for my wife and myself.
For any Japan visitor , the Fujiya Hotel should be high on their list!
