We loved Calheta Beach for its soft sand and calm waters, thanks to the sheltered cove. While not a natural beach, it offers a relaxing atmosphere. The area around the harbor boasts several excellent restaurants, and the beach itself has a convenient beach club for drinks and snacks. Plus, the affordable beach chairs for just 2 euros were a nice bonus.

Calheta is a nice village and had a big supermarket as well as smaller shops and a white sand beach. If you enjoy hiking, you will have to travel a bit because most of the hikes are not located in this part of the island. I would personally stay somewhere a bit more centered next time. Although this town also had a certain charm because part of the village is still rather old, it also has a main road next to the beach with some restaurants, a bigger supermarket, pharmacy, ... I enjoy staying in a neighborhood which is a little more vibrant and went on a lot of hikes, so that's why I would choose a different town to stay the next time I visit Madeira.

A small town with amazing views over the Atlantic and a public sandy beach. There is a museum of contemporary art and a sugar refinery, but we did not visit them. A very short walk on the waterfront. Worth visiting the Jardim do Mar, a small village with pedestrian narrow streets. We also enjoyed the dolphin watching trip. It takes about 40 minutes by car from Calheta to Funchal.

Probably the nicest place of Madeira, especially for those who love sunbathing, sandy beaches and relaxation. Also if You would like to travel to North of Madeira, it is much closer to do it from Calheta region comparing to Funchal.

The area is quite widespread from the marina and sand beach up into the mountains. Marina and beach area lovely and not inundated by 'cruisers'.
Some good local cafes and bars inland. Very steep in places. Be careful if walking if recently wet! Good connections by bus to Funchal, Porto Moniz (well worth a visit with its rock pool swimming), and other smaller seaside villages. A good base for a walking holiday especially if you have a car though some levada walks can be got to by bus. Has an interesting looking modern art museum sadly closed for maintenance on my visit.
The host Zeza was very nice and helpful, also gave us a lot of useful recommendations about Calheta. We even found a really nice presents and flowers from hosts garden :)) Of course the apartment is on the hill, so you need the car, but the good thing is that apartments has the parking place under the building. In the kitchen you can find many facilities, everywhere is super clean, also nice and comfortable beds and sofa, many mirrors. The main sand beach is about 5-10 min. with car. Thank you, Zeza for the pleasant stay!:)
Me and my girlfriend stayed at the calheta beach hotel to celebrate our first valentine's day together and let me tell you it was phenomenal all the staff were fantastic but there was one staff member who exceeded our expectations (Cristina Abreu) thank you for your help with the bouquet of roses, for the treats since we arrived and for the sparkling wine it was not our first time visiting the hotel and it will not be the last. Thank you very much for your kindness and attention.
The people working there were great. The value was good if you are expectations are not high. The rooms and facilities are somewhat dated. They were very helpful making special gluten free meals for my daughter. The rest of the food was average. Nothing spectacular. If you plan on staying at the hotel all day having drinks and eating you cannot beat the value. We were gone most of the day and did not participate in their programs. The night time entertainment was great.
Well equipped, cosy house with large outdoor terrace and private parking. House offers pretty much anything you could need. Francisco is a great host and is very responsive to questions. We didn't have any issues during our stay. Location is great, close to the Calheta beach/harbor with several restaurants and a good size / modern supermarket in walking distance. This is great for when you get back from a Levada hike or from sight seeing on the island.
Really enjoyed our stay. The pod is really comfortable, the outdoor space is lovely. Staff friendly, check in and out was easy. Amazing views from every aspect! The small honesty shop was great, and enjoyed receiving fresh bread each morning of our stay. Recommend hiring a car to get around as the roads to the pod are steep I wouldn't want to walk them. Calheta is a really lovely part of Madeira to visit and will be returning in the future.
A great place to stay, away from the busy area's which we wanted, not to far from the beach at calheta. The house was what we expected so certainly no disappointments, the family who own the property are very welcoming and hospitable, they made the stay even better, we certainly hope to visit again,it's on our list of properties. Not to far from Rabacal where we enjoyed a a great walk.
We had an amazing stay in Les Terrasses Suites, we will rebook if (when) we come back to Madeira. Our hosts, Jorge and Gabriel, made us feel so welcome and had fantastic tips to enhance our holiday. The views are spectacular and the facilities exceptional. Calheta is a great base to explore the island - from the sea to the hills. We could have stayed another week we loved it so much.
Praticality meets style. Loved the design and choice of furniture it all goes so well. The house is easily located, and its close by to a small market, fantastic restaurant and a local café and of course the beautiful relaxing Calheta Beach, as well as the famous Madeira levadas. Definitely worth staying at, the hostess is lovely and quite helpful.
It was my second stay in this hotel.
If I would be visiting Madeira again wound not hesitate to be hosted by the hotel Jardím Atlantic.
Receptionists María and Tony are extremely kind and always happy to help.
What to add???
Always would be some moron who will complain about something.
Hasta próxima visita!
I had a wonderful stay at this property. The staff were amazing, the room was very clean and had great views and the breakfast was very good as well. The one negative for me was that there is not wifi available in the guest rooms, you must go to the lobby to access wifi. Overall a great hotel.
we stayed here 3 days away from Funchal to make our holiday more intresting. First time i have stayed at a 5 star hotel and this hotel is a one to remember for lifetime. The Infinity Pool area on level 8 is absolutely amazing. I would actually stay here again. The staff were very professional.
The apartment was very nice and well equipped. Everything was really clean. The host is the most kind and hospitable person ever. We really enjoyed the place and, if ever again on Madeira, we will definitely stay in Amoreira House.
The host Marco was very helpful and informative. The house is huge and has great facilities with two large patio areas with great ocean views for dolphin spotting. Very close to sandy beach and the marina.
The location, whilst quite a way from Calheta beach, was a nice location, view of the sea (not the pool as described in the descriptors) and a nice local village.
The apartment is up the hill in Calheta. Beach and restaurants are quite a bit away, we made all ways by car.
Great starting spot for hikers and outdoor tourists.
The bedroom had a lot of space and a bathroom included. It was clean. The hostel was close to a supermarket, a car rental place, a gas station and the beach.
