The hotel is situated in the very centre of Stone Town, you wouldn‘t wish for a better location. It is not directly on the beach but both walking to the beach and to numerous restaurants and cafes is just matter of couple of minutes. The hotel itself is in oriental style that gives it some special charm. The restaurant is on the roof which is not so high but the views make you feel like in the 18th century, which we found interesting. The staff is very friendly but they do not always address to the mentioned problems. One can feel a bit of lack of professionalism in the sphere but because they are all nice young people, it is not a big problem, one can always improve themselves:) The breakfast was good, not very different from the breakfast in other hotels on the island. As usual you get fruit and then can choose from salty and sweet options of breakfast. The room was very small but in fact there was enough space for our stuff and clothes, and you have everything you usually need in hotels, the bed was big and good but it takes most of the space in the room, so do not expect moving around much in the room because there is not much room:))
The bathroom was not small and I would call it comfortable what refers to the facilities, but we could not get hot water even though we turned the switch on and waited for a really long time, so we had to shower with cold water every day and though we told the staff about it, it was not fixed (either not possible or forgotten). The shower heads (both the big and the small ones) were very old and even rusty, the small hand shower was not functioning at all, so we had to use the big one and make our hair wet even when we did not want it. The shower switch remained in my hand the very first time I tried to turn it on, and I barely touched it.

Navigating Zanzibar City was surprisingly easy, with an array of transportation options available. The compact size of the city made it convenient to explore on foot, with many attractions within walking distance of each other. I would definitely suggest trying the local Swahili food for fresh fish and seafood.
For a visitor from South Africa, I found the price of food and drinks at restaurants relatively expensive.

Paradise Found: Zanzibar's Enchanting Beauty
Paradise Found: Zanzibar's Enchanting Beauty
Zanzibar is simply one of the best places on Earth. Its beaches are nothing short of breathtaking, with pristine sands so fine they feel like silk beneath your toes. The tranquil waters, gentle and calm, create a mesmerizing backdrop that captivates the soul. My love for this place knows no bounds; it's a sanctuary of unparalleled beauty and serenity.

It was lovely and we got to see the history of the slave trade (albeit sadly as it was a horrendous practice). The beaches are also very beautiful (Jambiani Beach was where we mostly went.) The spice farm tour and markets were lovely as we got all kinds of fresh spices.
However, it is very tourist-centric. Payment is in dollars everywhere and people are always trying to sell you something. Feels very commercialised.

Dirty, smelly, full of approaching ~beach boys, sellers and beggars. Much more aggressive than up north. Mostly came for a Nakupenda tour. Nice place but be aware that it’s crowded - by lots of tourists and then of course even the aggressive up in your face wanting to touch you sellers there too.
The more upscaled beach hotels and restaurants are nice though.

Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence.
Stonetown is a cute, small city with arab influence. It is worth taking the boat to prison island to learn more about the history and see the turtles. 2 days is sufficient. In the evening there is a night market with different food stalls.
I have booked this place only to have a chance to sleep for 5-6 hours. I came to Zanzibar at night around 4am so until I could go and check in to other hotel near the beach I decided to find something cheap and close to airport to get some sleep so I only stayed at this hotel for 5 hours so I cant say much. But the receptionist were nice and room is ok. If its just for 1 night to stay near airport because you need its fine, otherwise for longer stay in too far from city center and there is nothing around that much near hotel.
Hotel outside area was nice, restaurant was pretty in evenings (needed more lighting at restaurant). Beach was nice but didn’t look like pictures on Booking.com. Comfy loungers. Large bed and spacious room. Aircon and Wi-Fi worked well. Hotel was close to airport and 10 min drive from stone town. Locals were nice on the beach. The cats were super friendly and looked like they were looked after. Pool was nice. Manager asked us for our opinion on hotel before leaving and listened to our considerations which was nice.
The surroundings of the hotel are real magic, the facility is in the middle of Stone Town, the historical heart of Zanzibar City, with sweet narrow streets and the soul of the island. The staff are amazing, always at your service, I needed to print 40 papers for work, they did it without charge, I forgot my jacket in the closet and went on a safari, they kept it for me and handed it to me when I got back. The beds are super comfortable. Bathroom ok.
The location is amazing, right on the beach, so great for people-watching. The hotel is big, but not too big so it feels very cozy! The staff were incredibly nice, everyone from the concierge to the room service, to the guards, to the waiters - everyone!
The pool is lovely, but my absolute favorite was the 200-year-old mango tree. If you don't stay here, at least come for drinks and a look at this beautiful tree!
really excellent location right on ‘jaws corner’ but still spacious enough rooms and private bathroom - valuable commodity for this price range in stone town! staff were friendly and housekeeping staff were particularly accommodating and did a great job. the hotel has a rooftop bar which has well priced food and drink as well as a good breakfast.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful and one of the best in Stone Town with a perfect location and charming boutique feel. The staff is on top of everything, incredibly kind, and gave us the warmest welcome upon our arrival! The interior pool is dreamy and all the premises are very well kept. The rooms are also amazing and super spacious.
Everything!! This hotel is clearly the best one that we had in Zanzibar!
Direct access to the beach, the swimming pool on the rooftop is amazing and very clean!
I highly recommend this hotel if you stay in Stone Town (very good location)
The staff was also so nice, it made the stay even better!
Thank you :)
Hotel situated in a historic building in Stone Town, close to all major attractions within walking distance. The room we stayed in was very spacious and decorated with antique furniture that gave it a special touch. The pool area is very nice and the terrace has a great view of the city.
Location on the beach and view was fabulous! Staff and hostess very attentive. Facilities perfect in every regard. Landscaping preserved the African experience. We wee met at the airport by the hotel van and returned as well. Exceptional value for the cost! 5 Star Plus
The location of this hotel is perfect! It is a couple minutes from the Forodhani Market and gave us quick access to anything in Stone Town. The rooms were clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good. Tours were easily booked through the hotel.
This hotel is right in stone town so good location to explore. The staff made us feel special with rose petals and room decorated after informing them of our engagement
The rooftop was lovely to see sunset and good drinks
The breakfast was really good!
Security on door
Tembo Hotel is quite busy and we were happy to be in the quietness of the B&B apartments in the street next to the main hotel. Big room and nice features. You have access to the breakfast (very good) and the pools at the main hotel which is on the beach.
- Location: The location of this hotel was central. We could walk almost anywhere in Stone Town.
- Hotel Architecture: The hotel has the most beautiful architecture and historical imagery throughout.
- Safe & Clean: We felt very safe and comfortable.
Antonio Beach Hotel & Spa has lovely rooms on the beach. Our room was large, clean, had working AC (although not very powerful), great WiFi, and had hot water. The hotel grounds are very nice, spacious, natural. The pool was wonderful.
A 4 star hotel surrounded by Stone Town's main 5 star hotels. A pretty great location. Air conditioned lobby which is greeaaat if you visit when it's hot. Rooms felt spacious enough. The staff were really nice and conversational.
This hotel has a great location. It is close to the beach and all the major sights in stone town. Rooms are comfortable and clean and I looked forward to breakfast everyday. Very nice spanish omelets.
Great location for exploring Stone Town or watching the sunset on the beach. balcony or pool, interesting architecture and furnishings, attentive staff.
