I'm an American volunteer providing non-lethal support for Ukraine during the current conflict. Like all of Ukraine, Kharkiv is under a US "Level 4 - do not travel" restriction, but I've had no issues.
There are air alarms, but if you are conscious of your environment and make good decisions, you will be fine. It's all about statistics and luck.
The people of Kharkiv are warm and welcoming. Trsnsportation in the city is working - metro, bus, Uklon, Uber, etc. The food is wonderful and the prices are low by western standards.
I particularly enjoy the rynoks (markets) throughout the city. You can find anything from car parts to soviet memoribelia at very reasonable prices.
There are many volunteer opportunities in the city and I can't wait to get back - I am at the end of my 3 month tourist visa and am applying for an extension.

I move through Kharkiv regularly in my capacity as a volunteer and aid donor to Ukraine. Kharkiv pre-war a beautiful city like most large Ukrainian cities. Kharkiv at the moment during the crisis is a different city totally, very different to Kyiv or Lyviv where for the most part life goes on and everything is open and functioning. The current Kharkiv has lost its soul slightly in that many have left and not returned, it is very quiet and deserted in many places and there is still extensive damage to the Northern suburbs and even in the city centre. There are still regular air raids and regular shelling and attempted attacks from Russia, but people are trying to get on with life. So if you wanted to explore a beautiful city at a time when it is less congested, probably a good time. Please don't let my comments deter you, as any tourist dollar is needed and people need to also see visitors as it gives them stamina and resolve knowing people have not forgotten. Kharkiv is a big city and spread out over a large area, it has two real contrasting sides, one which seems quite industrial and the other a mix of modern and old historic structures among parks and greenery. As for amenities, Kharkiv still has all you need operating at the moment and you can get very good deals on accommodation given the current climate.

Kharkiv is a city for Youth!
Kharkiv is a city for Youth! A lot of young girls, students, international students make it EU city like and even more. Very good fine dining as well as casual spots ) Cheaper then Odessa (a bit more expensive as Lviv) I did not expect to be so authentic in the downtown (but clean)

Shevchenko Garden Park which surrounded the Nemo Hotel-
was delightful. Loved the clean, manicured grass, the outdoor fitness
equipment , the wonderful stairs leading down to more fountains.
Sumskaya St is fascinating. Filled with all kinds of shopping. Leading
to the main square. Kharkov has a definite , young vibe with all
of the college students out between classes. Endless coffee shops,
and where else does coffee sell for less than one U.S. dollar?

ENJOY!
This is really nice place to stay for a week or more. The staff was excellent because they helped me in every case when i needed it. They will never inteerupt u by extra questions, but if u wanna talk they r always ready for that♥️The breakfast was totally fine for this kind of hostel, it could make u full for 2-3 hours at least. As for the location, it was n t the best, because was in little bit dark and poor district, but was so close to metro and railway station, 5-10 minutes walk. Thanks ATTIC again🥰🥰
overall I had a pleasant experience with the flat owner and the property itself. It has a high ceiling and looks very hotel-like, while you also have a kitchen and even a washing machine which could be quite useful. Also, you can find towels and basic toiletries in the room which is not always the case for B&Bs. The location is amazing, right in the heart of the city within walking distance to great restaurants and shopping mall.
Hotel is good place to stay for business: located in city center, has street parking next to it, and bomb shelter and restaurant at -1 floor. Room was comfortable and clean. Staff was very polite and helpful. At the time of my stay (July'2023) the restaurant has restricted open hours to 7 pm. My room had windows facing backyard, which was very green and quiet (no traffic sounds at all).
It was one of my best experiences with hotels in Kharkiv.
The hotel is well-designed and furniture/equipment quality was not compromised: the bed is comfortable, the shower set is very nice and reliable and the desk and chairs are suitable for working.
I also like the breakfast options and that you're not constrained by time, so some of them you can use as a snack.
It's another classic hotel albeit with a catch -- the bathroom and toilet is shared between two rooms. The rooms are nice though, ascetic as I like them but still got everything. There's a balcony too, which is always great. Loved the staircase with the glass mosaics, patchy walls and metal railings. There's a bar/restaurant downstairs with a decent menu as well.
This is the second time I stayed at this hotel but this time I choose a pol-luxe room not a standard or economy room; it is better to spend a bit more money to be comfortable. Refrigerator and air con worked well and the bed was large and comfortable. Location is rated excellent as it is close to the Kharkov airport. See below for details.
The hotel was really cosy, the facilities nice. The price is fantastic and the capsules felt private and were fairly soundproof.
I arrived after a long overnight trip and the reception allowed me to check in early and there is very tasty food available in the kitchen area which was much appreciated after a long drive.
Nothing... the hotel was closed due to the war and in shambles. I could not get another hotel until2:30 in the morning only with a police escort as the curfew starts at 11pm. Why is this hotel on Booking now? It was real security risk for me alone at that time and not knowing anything about the area.
Polite and attentive personnel, luxurious spa facilities, perfect pool. Restaurant offers fine dishes and good service. Everything went well beyond my expectations. I'd recommend this hotel & spa for anyone who is looking for a nice resort in Kharkiv.
Everything was great and amazing, friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, great location (near from everywhere)
by the way , the food in hotel very delicious, breakfast tasty and you can order many things in dinner and lunch too
Beds are comfortable, good air conditioner in the room, spacious bathrooms, well equipped kitchen, very friendly and helpful staff (all know English on a good level). Overall it’s one of the best options for a cheap bed in Kharkov.
Best breakfast in Kharkiv!!! The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, the location was very convenient to the city center, the price was amazingly affordable and the accommodations were super comfortable.
I have been traveling to Kharkiv since 2016. The first and mostly club city hotel, where I prefer accommodation. The hotel deserves the money you pay.🇺🇦🧿👍
