It is such a peaceful place to stay in a beautiful city. The beds are so comfortable and a very spacious room. Towels, dressing gowns and slippers are also provided. There is also a massive car park so parking is no problem but also within walking distance to the town centre.

It is a relatively small city but has everything to offer. The fresh markets are fabulous. It is connected to the bigger cities by train so easy to get to. Visit the tourist office on the banks of the river and get the self-guided walking tour map - leads you to a beautiful visit of the city.

Saintes is a really interesting town, well worth a day or two of exploration. There are historic buildings in the town centre and a (mile or so) walk to a roman ampitheatre, which was being renovated when we visited and another large church. The river Charante runs through the middle of town. Just beware, though, on a Sunday evening almost all the restaurants/ bars are closed so ask beforehand if you want to eat out

Quaint mid-French town on the banks of the Charente.
Quaint mid-French town on the banks of the Charente. Lively along the river banks but away from they’re much more classy and sophisticated with a busy evening scene including live music and excellent restaurants and bars. Only stayed one night en route from the Dordoigne to Brittany, but managed to fit in the Abbaye and the Amphitheatre, both of which I would recommend. Stayed at the Hotel Messageries - highly recommend.

It was easy to find and welcoming when you reached the Reception. We asked if there was a nearby restaurant and was immediately directed to a beautiful little place, which allowed dogs too. (A real bonus) . The room was very clean and had a country cottage feel with pale blue painted furniture. Made a change from the normal plain, impersonal chain hotel rooms.

There wasn't a great selection of restaurants in Saintes and our dinner was a little on the miserable side. But the town was beautiful; the river; the amphitheatre; the Roman antiquities. We would definitely return to Saintes again and probably stay at one of the modest hotels in the centre of town.

This "hotel" is just about OK if you are needing to rest overnight but do not pay for breakfast - it's very poor! No bar and just an awful TV area nowhere comfortable to sit and read- we escaped for an hour or so. Drive on or if staying in Saintes stay central there are some great hotels in the old part
Since we booked at the last minute we didn't really have a choice. Staff was very nice and helpful, breakfast is ok for the price, location is perfect (right in front of the train station), surprisingly quite. Rooms are big enough and comfortable though not very clean (especially the bathroom), good water pressure (rare for France), the city itself is wonderful and definitely worth visiting. Make sure to have dinner at La Terrase restaurant - the best food I've ever had in France (and I live in Paris!) and really cheap prices
Danie and Jean Yves were delightful and very helpful. The house was very beautiful, immaculate and full of interesting things. Our well appointed, comfortable room was spacious with a view over the lovely garden which were were welcome to wander round and sit in. The breakfast was full of delicious home made delights, beautifully presented. The location of the house was ideal, just a short walk to all the historic places of interest in Saintes.
This is not a luxury hotel but it does exactly what you need, a clean confy bed when you are travelling long distances. We arrived at 1:30am because our channel crossing was delayed. We had a password, got into our rooms, one next to each other, at ground floor level and the car parked in front of the rooms. The rooms were clean, the bed confy and we were allowed with our dog. It is all we wanted at a great price!
We had booked the hotel not knowing our car would break down on the way. We called to say we would possibly come in later and were told they would wait for us. The next days we needed some help in contacting different garages as we do not speak French, and without hesitation they helped us contact them. Excellent customer service.
Fantastic location. Beautiful apartment with a clever use of space and equipped with everything we might have needed.
It was very clean and warm too.
Sandrine was really helpful, even ensuring there were ice cubes in the freezer when I requested some.
We'll definitely stay there again the next time we are in Saintes!
Great location, very friendly and welcoming hosts, pet friendly. Parking slot is for an additional fee. Good breakfast in the garden. The house is very special. It doesn’t suitable for you if you are a fan of five stars hotels, but definitely interesting if you like the sights with the history and special atmosphere.
The people were soo friendly and also speak english. That’s not very often in France.
Room was very clean, dog was allowed, it was quiet. Bed was Big and comfy. And we could check in at any time. Checkout was at 11 am - so we had no stress in the morning. We will be booking again in january!
Close to the motorway, but tucked away so nice and quiet. Saintes is worth a look, but the hotel is on the outskirts, so you'd need a car. We ate in town, but there is a restaurant next door to the hotel, and there's a Super U hypermarket with a cafe just down the road
Lovely, spacious and well appointed house with a pretty garden as well, location is great. Owner very helpful and everything was very straightforward. Parking at front is really convenient. Would recommend for a stay in lovely Saintes, and we plan to come back!
Staff friendly and helpful.. air con worked, beds comfy, room clean, nice sized room and the location and hotel was very quiet even though it was in an industrial area. Very convenient for the motorway network.
great position overlooking the river. we were able to take our dogs into the downstairs bar which was a bonus as we stayed in December. Paid undercover parking very close to hotel.
We have stayed at this hotel before. Right in the centre of Saintes overlooking the river. Handy car park next door. Super friendly staff and a lively bar with good music.
One of the nicest bed and breakfast in France. Perfect way to explore the countryside around Bordeaux. The hosts were very nice as well. Very cool village.
