Capital of Wales, Cardiff is a wonderfully green city steeped in national pride. At its heart is enormous Bute Park, divided by the River Taff and named after the marquis that once lived in Cardiff Castle overlooking it. In fact, this is just one of 5 castles within the surrounding area.
Over the road is Cathays Park, a beautiful square flanked by Edwardian architectural masterpieces including Cardiff City Hall and the excellent National Museum of Wales. Another must-see is St Fagan’s National History Museum, one of Britain’s top attractions.
From Victorian arcades to the fabulous St David’s Center, shopping in Cardiff is fantastic. And there’s no shortage of pubs and restaurants for a short rest or meal. Those by Cardiff Bay have particularly pleasant views.
Also by the bay are the futuristic National Assembly for Wales and the Wales Millennium Center. Another year 2,000 landmark is the Millennium Stadium, a state-of-the-art venue for international rugby and soccer matches, as well as concerts. Next door is Cardiff Arms Park, home to the city’s rugby union team, while Cardiff City FC’s new stadium is in the west.
Cardiff Airport is further west near Barry and Booking.com have an excellent range of hotels, B&Bs and apartments both near there and in the city center.
St Fagans living museum was great and loved the castles.
St Fagans living museum was great and loved the castles. Visited Cardiff Bay but otherwise there wasn’t more than 2 days worth of sights. There are more things to do as day trips but can be done from a less busy area than Cardiff. There was a great bit of traffic.

Cardiff is a wonderful city.
Cardiff is a wonderful city. The people are very friendly, and it is a lovely place just to walk around. It's relatively small, so it's easy to navigate, and it has a A LOT of pubs, and bars. The sun came out on one of the days we were there, and I think everyone within 5 miles came out too, but it just made for a great day. Everyone was just enjoying themselves. I would highly recommend it for a weekend away.

There is plenty of things to do in Cardiff for any age groups, Cardiff bay is lovely with places to eat and drink, walking around the bay looking at the monuments and visiting the Norwegian Church Arts Centre for a lovely coffee and cake, or meal and hand made gifts, or you could find the enormous crocodile?? or take a boat ride.

As a capitol city, Cardiff was disappointing.
As a capitol city, Cardiff was disappointing. There isn't much to see as a visitor (all done in 1 day) and it feels lacking. The city was dirty, pricey, and an enormous amount of panhandlers and clearly drug-influenced individuals asking/demanding money. Would not go back.
Just checked out of Central Retreat and had such a lovely stay there, everything was great, very clean and comfortable. Lovely comfortable king size bed.
The apartment is really spacious and was equipped with everything we needed.
The location was perfect for walking into the City Centre and Cardiff Bay . Parking was free and just outside the door. 😁
Loved the complimentary Welsh cakes and coffee machine!
Lovely breakfast from the bakery around the corner too: )
I wish we had stayed longer, we will definitely be back!!!
Five minute walk from the train you arrive at a modest looking hotel which is ten minutes away from Cardiff Castle and a few meters away from the bustling city center.
The rooms were perfect, so quiet ,well designed, clean, modern with everything you need including coffee/ tea and biscuits. The bed was so comfy!!!!
The staff were extremely lovely and accommodating.
Location was excellent and only a few minutes walk from the train station as well as about 10-15 minutes from the city centre. Our room was very clean and tidy. Beds were warm and comfy and the bathrooms were very clean. Host was very responsive to messages and helped with everything we needed. If you’re staying in Cardiff this is the place to stay
Lovely, comfortable flat with luxury touches. Secure parking a bonus.
Super clean bathrooms and bedrooms.
Perfect location for the pubs and restaurants in Cardiff bay and access to city centre.
Great communication with Sunshine stays, prompt response to queries and clear instructions about everything to know flat and apartment block.
We were given a free 'upgrade' to a passable and functional room. Big enough. Warm. Cardiff is an expensive place to stay in the city centre and whilst not overall vfm , compared to other city centre hotels this was one of the cheapest. Great bar and music almost next door. Cheap parking. Good helpful staff.
The hotel is well located, being about 20 minutes walk to the city centre and 12 minutes to the Cardiff Bay area. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bedroom was warm and light with a view over the water and the double bed was very comfortable and impressively wide. Breakfast was good with some cooked options.
It's a well-equipped place for self-catering, though one can go out for food there as there are loads of restaurants close. It was clean and spacious. For sightseeing the place is brilliant, with the Senedd and Cardiff Bay being very close, both being places you have to see in Cardiff. Diolch yn fawr iawn!
Brilliant location about a 8 minute drive from Cardiff city centre, works out about a £5-£10 Uber depending on the time. Beautiful view of the river from both the living room and bedroom windows. Very clean and well furnished apartment with an extra sense of safety as it’s a gated complex.
Room had a balcony with view over Cardiff Bay. Stunning. Breakfast was very good with plenty of options for hot and cold buffet. Staff were very friendly at all levels and parts of the hotel. Very well run and didn't break the bank for a 5* at all.
Reception was organised and friendly. We were seen and processed quickly. The room was basic and clean. Car parking was £10 a day. Hotel is about a 15 minute walk to the city or Cardiff Bay in the opposite direction. Had a quiet 2 nights stay.
The location is in the middle of the city centre with loads of shops and restaurants, friendly staff, and one of the cheapest rates in Cardiff. NCP parking is about 3 minutes away and the hotel provides discount vouchers.
Hotel room was great, had everything we needed. Location is ideal for visiting Cardiff Bay and Millenium Theatre. Nice easy 15/20 minute walk to City Centre. Extra bonus is having free car parking on site.
Close to Cardiff city centre. nice and warm. comfortable room. free tea and coffee in reception.
car park right outside the front door. £7 per 24 hours. I could see my car from the bedroom window.
Ideally situated near the city centre and within walking distance of the Cardiff City stadium. Free parking, either in the hotel’s car park or adjoining streets. The room was lovely too.
Spacious apartment close to Cardiff Bay, ideal for touring area and City Centre. Apartment had all the facilities you could need, and private parking included.
