The innkeeper is an artist and she acts as your surrogate mother while you are here. Be sure to ask for room 203 which is set up as a traditional Japanese living room. She and her husband got up in the middle of the night to see me off. I couldn't recommend more highly.

Mizu, the hostess of Smile guesthouse is a very kind and helpful person who speaks good English. She helped and guided us to make our stay even better. The guest house is a traditional Japanese house. Beautiful and full of details. And next to that you can eat fresh strawberries at the Tanaberry farm, which is a 8 minutes walking distance. We can recommend everyone to stay here. As we immediately extended our stay the day we arrived and are planning to definitely stay again the next time we travel to Japan.

The trip to the bathroom during the night was somewhat difficult for us. The bedroom was on the upper floor in the lovely traditional Japanese house. The narrow stairway was challenging for us. There is ample room downstairs and perhaps owners would accommodate a request to put the bedding there.

An old Japanese house in a beautiful secluded valley. The house is really very large, with a large kitchen where it is possible to cook. The surroundings are really beautiful but you have to consider that you are really isolated. Fast wifi, great service, highly recommended if you want to experience a "different" Japan

Situated in Takashima and only 50 km from Sanzen-in Temple, Farm stay inn Sanzaemon-tei 母屋GuestHouse Shiga-Takasima Traditional Japanese architecture house features accommodation with mountain views,... It really did feel like staying at my grandparents house in Japan. The staff were so friendly, kind and intentional and the food prepared for us in the morning was phenomenal.
