Takayama City, Takayama
Renovated in 2015, IORI Stay is nestled in Takayama. This traditional Japanese-style townhouse was created in collaboration with local artists and boasts designs with both modern and traditional Japanese influence. Guests will have the entire property to themselves during their stay. Stunning design. Perfectly thought out amenities. Divine breakfasts. Charming staff so even though they arent on site, we felt totally supported.

Towels and bed linen are offered in the holiday home. For added privacy, the accommodation features a private entrance. Very nice riyokan. Our family enjoyed it a lot. The checkin with tablet was easy and went very well. The support from the owner was very good : we call late 1st night to understand how to get hot water and received immediately the answer. I definitely recommend and we will come back with pleasure.

The house is just gorgeous. Very comfortable, super clean, super tasteful design. On top of, Takashi, who owns/operates a record shop/café next door was the most caring and attentive host you could wish for. He made us feel at home from our arrival.
It’s a cute little village. Bakery, ramen shop, grocery. What else do you need.
Moving uphill from the place we found beautiful country side views and met really nice people.
What a hidden gem. 🙏

Soramachi was a very comfortable house with good facilities. Probably the most spacious and nicest accomodation we experienced in our travels through Japan. Only stayed 2 nights but it provided a relaxing and quiet break from the crowds elsewhere. The house is right on the river and close to a tranquil temple walk and public bathhouse . It is an easy walk from there to the old quarter and we walked to the house with luggage from the station ( 1.4 km). The owners are obviously very house proud and welcoming. Highly recommend this accomodation.

Takayama City, Takayama
The air-conditioned villa consists of 2 bedrooms, 4 living rooms, a fully equipped kitchen with an oven and a coffee machine, and 1 bathroom with a bidet and a hair dryer. The villa offers bed linen, towels and housekeeping service. The building itself, as you can see from the pictures, is exquisite. If you are a fan of architecture or traditional craftsmanship, you will delight at just BEING in Taniya. This was almost a problem—I'm used to thinking of a hotel as a "crash pad" while exploring, and instead I wanted to spend hours and hours inside! Each morning was calm and peaceful: make a cup of green tea, then observe the way the light plays through the washi, the sound of water rushing by. I also particularly loved the bath; one of my favorite memories was enjoying it on a rainy, chilly night. We got home from dinner, I used the auto-fill function while I got ready for bed, then opened the window onto the courtyard and stepped in. Watching the moon through the rain, maple leaves, and steam curling up from the bath... it's like having your own personal onsen. Plus, each item in the villa was thoughtfully chosen, from the local sakes on offer in the fridge to the items provided in the bathroom to the super-soft pajamas. Even better were our hosts, who exemplified the Japanese concept of "omotenashi" (essentially, "hospitality" taken to its highest level). Well before arrival we were working with the Taniya concierge to make our plans happen (many thanks to Mahiro!). She handled making reservations at our desired restaurants and travel around town was provided as needed. Where she truly excelled was helping us troubleshoot our more ambitious ideas, such as: is there an open-air onsen near the Shinhotaka Ropeway with private baths? And how do we get there and back? The Kusakabe family were also gracious and friendly hosts, helping us along with the concierge and sharing their knowledge of Japan and Takayama plus their personal history—talking with them and touring the Folk Crafts Museum was a particular highlight, as many of the items on display are Kusakabe family heirlooms.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms very clean and comfortable
Room is spacious, very clean and comfortable.
Very clean and nice rooms. We‘ve liked it a lot!!
Very clean and quiet, nice peaceful music playing
Very modern, very clean, comfortable rooms. Enjoyed the small bags of real coffee. Nice and quiet, just the sound of running water at night.
The location is at the beginning trail of Magome to Tsumago. The tatami and futon is comfortable. The property is very clean. Even though the bath is sharing, we avoid the peak hour so that we can shower alone.
Very clean property with lovely features. Staff were very friendly and helpful
Close to everything and very clean.
Good location for the train station, the bus station and the town. The hotel was very clean and we enjoyed the private onsen. The hotel also provided a gift if you chose not to have your room serviced each day, which was a great incentive!
Onn Nakatsugawa was a short walk from the train station and the bus stop for Magome. The building felt brand new and clean (we even had to take our shoes off before entering the hotel), and the decor was quite calming. The room was tiny but comfortable and, again, very clean. Free toiletries were available to grab at the lobby.
