Great pre-Maya (Zepotlan) site.
Great pre-Maya (Zepotlan) site. Plan on staying at least 2-3 hours. It's about 30-60 mins from the main square in Oaxaca, depending on the traffic which can be really bad. From entrance, there is a lot of uphill walking and it is not very accessible to those with walking issues. Spectacular views of the complex as well as of the City below.

Still incredible, was here 40:years ago, trees have grown.
Still incredible, was here 40:years ago, trees have grown. Tunnels cordoned off now which is imperative for preservation. Enjoyed more so this visit as it was a guided tour with great guide, Anne. So heard informative talk about Monte Alban.

Go early to avoid busy times and hot sun.
Go early to avoid busy times and hot sun. We walked the perimeter first and then were so amazed by the ruins within. To get there, we took a bus for $60 pesos which runs every hour and was a great option!

- Beautiful building in a great location, walkable to the main sights and lots of restaurants
- Super helpful staff, helped us arrange transport to Monte Alban / airport
- Delicious breakfast (included in price when paying by cash)
- Clean and spacious rooms
Amazing location just outside of the Centro area, everything in the city is well within walking distance. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful, Maria gave us loads of recommendations on food and bars and helped us with our travel to Monte Albán.
Room was super clean and bed was really cute and comfortable, nice breakfast too!
It’s a very well-located hotel that is excellent value for money. It felt like an oasis in central Oaxaca with its beautiful gardens and planting. Our room was spacious, comfortable and cleaned perfectly daily. THs staff were friendly, helpful and went the extra mile for guests. The breakfast (paid separately) was also very good. They arranged a tour of Monte Alban for us which was great, as well as our laundry and taxis. Highly recommended.
Location, friendly staff, coffee in the morning, free water, fabulous views from the roof terrace. We took a tour arranged by the host to Monte Alban and local villages, including excellent Mezcal tasting. Just around the corner from a good cafe for breakfast (Cafe Alex).
It was in a great central location close to the cathedral and the Museum of Cultures. It has a lovely open courtyard where breakfast is served. There was a hand written (and coloured in) card welcoming me with a small wicker basket of local Mexican chocolates. The staff very kindly helped me out during some stress when my flight to Mexico City was delayed by several hours. They helped with all my taxis including to Monte Alban - a must see if you stay in Oaxaca.
Hotel Monte Alban is an 18th century building with quite a bit of the original wall painting intact and interesting nooks and crannies. Crookedly hung, and sometimes damaged, pictures are on the walls. There's plenty of atmosphere and an excellent view of the square. The location is central to markets in the south and renovated, tourist attractions to the north.
The location is very close to the historic centre. Just 200 m away is a shuttle bus to Monte Alban. Wifi was ok. The bed was comfortable but during the night the cover was not enought.
- super welcoming and helpful staff! they can book taxis (great service!) and help with tips about the city and surroundings
- great location - walking distance from main attractions and restaurants. simple to get a taxi to and from Monte Alban, as it is on a well known street
- the king superior rooms are spacious (gigantic beds!) and have a kettle
- conditioner, body lotion and new towels are provided every day
- great Wi-Fi
A better breakfast you would not have found anywhere! I was there 4 nights, each morning with a unique and exceptionally tasty breakfast. Also, it's on a quiet street and you're just 2 blocks from the major tour agencies. The Zocalo was about a 12 minute walk; not bad at all but I liked the convenience of a booking agency to places like Monte Alban, Tule and Mitla being much closer.
The staff was super nice, kind and helpful. They helped us arrange a trip to Monte Alban and kindly agreed to serve us breakfast earlier than they usually serve breakfast so we could have something to eat prior to our trip.
The hotel location was great! We were a few blocks from the city Centre. Breakfast at XTILU is extraordinary! I highly recommend the chilaquiles! In sum, we enjoyed every moment of our stay at XTILU and recommend staying here!
