Getting around Zacatecas is easy. Most old town attractions are centrally located so a car is not required.
Zacatecas is a very cultural city, the lights at night change totality the city, food very good and the prices are very good.
Zacatecas has very narrow, steep streets. The Museo de Rafael Colonel should not be missed.
Zacatecas is a great town with lots of history and the Mexican Revolution. A mining town where you can actually go into a mine and see how the Indians were treated as slaves and dierd young. The Spaniards got lots gold and silver from these mines. There is a disco now in one the mines. There are many churches and museums. The Colonel Museum is worth seing, but is big with good art pieces. You might need two hors to see it. Most eateries are good, but you can get crepes and churros in specialized shops. Most items in the shops are good prices and you can get a good haircut in local markert for two dolars (men and women). It is easy to get around. People are very friendly. The turibuses run day and night to diifferent routes. They are not too expensive. If you are there on a Friday or Saturday night you might experience a "callejonada". When a group of people celebrating a birthday or a weding go partying through downtown streets to one of the main plazas and tourist are invited to participate. Two key items are required in this celebration. A burro with two jugs of mezcal and burro keeper having glasses to offer to the guests. Second - a brass band playng banda music at the main stops everybody is welcomed to dance. It's a lot fun.(a blast). The architecture is unique there are many small laleys and lots steps to climb. The city is not flat and there are many streets that go up and down.
I spent 4 days here in November which I thought was just the right amount of time. The weather was great. Downtown reminds me of Mexico City, with lighted colonial buildings, and many churches, but the many plazas, alleys, and parks reminded me of Guanajuato. It's a charming little city with just enough to do and see to enjoy your stay there. Most sites can be easily reached by foot from downtown, even the mine. There are constant buses on the main avenue, Hidalgo, and taxis are cheap (60 pesos - $2 - from downtown to the bus station at the edge of town). A taxi to the Cerro La Bufa (large hill that overlooks the city) is more expensive, around 100 pesos ($5). The teleférico (sky tram) is no longer running, but the city does have Uber. The only thing that really didn't wow me in Zacatecas was the food. I like street food and small restaurants, and found Zacatecas lacking in both. The courtyard restaurants were very charming and the staff servicio, but the food was just meh. The fine dining options were very pretentious and expensive - definitely geared toward spendy travelers. Overall, I enjoyed Zacatecas, and if you're looking for a short, charming visit to a city that isn't overrun with tourists, this is one of them.
A very beautiful colonial city that we felt right at home. While not many spoke English we managed to get around the historical area of this city. We highly recommend Zacatecas for at least a 2 night stop.
There is so much to see & do in Zacatecas! So much history & rich in culture. People are super friendly. Looking forward to coming back.
Zacatecas is a very interesting city which it offers a variety of things to do.
Wear comfortable shoes! Lots of walking . Lots of very interesting facts and stories about the mines of Zacatecas.
Zacatecas is a beautiful colonial city with lots of attractions for the tourists. We ate at Los Dorados de Villa and took several tours recommended by the hotel staff. We took st night the Leyendas tour. It was funny and had a great night view of the city.
One of a kind hotel in the beautiful city of Zacatecas. What a treat to stay in this hotel that was built on an old bull ring dating back to the 1850’s. The staff was friendly and helpful, the restaurant had excellent dishes, and the bar built in the old bull pen was so cool. I have never taken so many pictures of a hotel in my life. The hotel is centrally located to the plaza that has restaurants, shops, museums, and much more. If you are in Zacatecas you have to experience this hotel at least for one night.
Size of room, bed, furnishings, all very good. Difficult to fin though. google maps takes you to the wrong side of the hotel and downtown Zacatecas is difficult to navigate. They had to come and find us and drove us there.
