Staying at Kupu Kupu was an experience we will treasure forever! There is NO better place to experience the magic of Bukit Lawang, the location of this guest house being absolutely perfect - it took us 10 minutes to walk the narrow path between the guest house and the rest of the village and being around the bend from the village in a quiet and natural area meant that we were be situated directly in the wilderness, watching the jungle and the stunning cooling river from our large undisturbed window view, and from the lovely cafe area. We could see moneys playing in the tress and the hornbill coming in to sit in the tree opposite the guest house every evening. The staff at Kupu Kupu are amazing - Arif is a fantastic person, passionate about conservation, and was the perfect jungle guide on our overnight trek, tailoring our walk to our skills and interests, and Juli also assisted us so well with his deep knowledge of the jungle. Risky is an incredible natural cook, and the food he cooked for our evening communal eating, was so delicious that we never wanted to eat anywhere else. For me it has been the best food I've had on our holiday around Indonesia. Mary also cooks the best banana pancakes and omelettes, and is a great cook and an incredibly sweet person. Thank you to this fabulous team, we could really make the most of our time in this unique and magical place, as the location, the staff, our room with a magical view and the food left nothing to be desired. We feel incredibly lucky to have found this jewel in the jungle and hope to return again with our friends. Thank you SO much dear staff at Kupu Kupu!!!

The stay at EcoTravel cottages was an amazing experience. From the start of our communications with the cottages until the final goodbyes the staff went above and beyond to make our trip enjoyable and comfortable. The room was spacious, neat and clean with all the amenities. The bed was comfortable and came with amazing views of the river. Breakfast was more a generous serving of fresh fruits and catered to everyone's wants and needs. They even stay with you at breakfast to ensure the monkey's don't partake at the breakfast or harass you while enjoying your meal. They staff provided their own tours of the local jungle which was such an amazing experience. They were knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and ensured we were well looked after for the duration of the 7 hour hike. We saw 7 orangutangs on our journey and many other species of wildlife. They ensure that the hike is done ethically and that their is no disturbance to the local wildlife while on the journey, I would recommend if you can to take their advice on board about wearing long pants and take insect repellent. We done the hike in sneakers which is doable but can become very slippery at times so if possible i would recommend shoes with grip or shoes suited to hiking. We can't express our gratitude to the staff who truly made our trip an amazing and memorable experience.

Jhonny and his family/crew are some of the warmest genuine people I have ever met, their level of customer service goes beyond anything I have ever experienced. Nothing was any problem and if there were any issues they were addressed immediately. The crew will look after all you needs from cooking delicious breakfasts to fabulous local lunch's and dinners from the extensive menu. The organised tours be it trekking/bat caves/local village tours are first rate, with a huge special mention to my "Jungle Brother" Rasta, who is not only a knowledgeable and great guide, but a fantastic and witty bloke and we shall remain friends via social media until our return. The accommodation is 5 stand alone huts which contain everything you need and a food/bar area, on three occasions in the week we were there an Orangutan dropped by for a visit (mind blowing) not to mention the 8+ we saw during our day trek with Rasta. We will return, best wishes to you Jhonny, your lovely family and crew - just keep doing what your doing and one day we will see you again: Rob and Jo

Alek and Nabil are really great hosts who are Bukit Lawang's second best feature after the orangutans! The balcony has a lovely view out over the river and the location is perfect in amongst the locals.
