Covering gentle hills overlooked by higher peaks, Sanremo is a sophisticated Italian Riviera town with a glamorous casino. Built in 1905, this Liberty-style building hosts rounds of the Italian and European Poker Tours.
Down the road are the colourful minarets of San Basilio Russian Orthodox Church, while in the opposite direction is the Ariston Theatre, home of the Sanremo Music Festival – Italy’s biggest musical contest.
Nearby Piazza Colombo is a large square enlivened with vibrant flowers. Sanremo (or San Remo) is known as the City of Flowers and has the Mediterranean’s most important flower market. The surrounding area also produces olive oil, and fine examples can be purchased in shops of hillside La Pigna, the medieval part of town accessible only by stone steps.
Atop the hill, the Regina Elena Gardens provide lovely views down to the sandy beach and yacht-lined marina. Whale watching and diving trips depart from the harbour, and a few streets away is Villa Nobel, where Alfred Nobel died. A cycle path runs nearby and continues along the Ligurian coast all the way to Genoa, following the route of the old train tracks.
The modern tracks are underground and the train station is surrounded by the Sanremo accommodation on Booking.com, ranging from cheap apartments and guest houses to 5-star hotels.

Very family orientated and quite spread out along the liguria coast
Really, very different from the neighbouring Cote D'azur - more reserved and less glamorous. Not a lot of tourists The people were friendly, when I was asking for directions on my cycle to San Remo and then back to Nice, France. The hotel Corso, I stayed in was very dated and did not have any smoke alarms - so really not great - safety wise......
Food was noticeably cheaper than in France
The beaches were quite small and busy with local families
The dedicated cycle route/Capo Nero tunnel from San Remo to Ospadaletti was really great and a real highlight of the ride
Important Cycle tip - avoid the road tunnel from Menton to Grimaldi - use the alternative route at the traffic lights at Port Garavan, Menton ,France for your safety - but is is a 15% gradient climb into Grimaldi - so you need strong legs !

Sanremo is a beautiful coastal town with lots of hidden gems. The beachfront is beautiful with a cycle path that stretches the entirety of the coast both to the east and the west.
The old town up the hill is interesting and varied with lots of alleyways and lots of steps.
The port has a sea wall that you can walk along and gives a great view back to the amazing coastline.
Throughly recommend visiting Sanremo if you’re after something a little bit different but wants walks and views.
The restaurants and cafes are amazing and they are all great value for money. Most areas around the centre of town have free communal Wi-Fi.

We had not expected much but once we arrived we were charmed by the atmosphere. The old town was a treat to explore. Wandering up to the top of the town is a bit of a work-out but the view of the city from there makes it worthwhile. The coast area of the town is also worth wandering through.

I stayed a few different places along this stretch of coast, and chose each for a unique experience.
Although I'm bored by lying on the beach, I do like to swim on a hot day, so San Remo has a few options there.
But I'd consider this as more of a city break. Not a huge city; granted. But the compactness caused by the mountains coming right down to the sea, and the wealth of history make San Remo feel quite urban.
There are dozens of lovely churches, and the faded glamour of buildings from it's Belle Epoque heyday. Plus of course, the old town, with it's winding streets and steep alleyways.
The cycleway/footpath which follows the original railbed is a great asset to the region. By nature it's flat, but follows the spectacular coastline almost all the way to France, and several kilometres to the east as well. A perfect excuse to hire an e-bike (or pedal or even jog), to explore some of the gorgeous neighbouring towns and beaches; such as those at Bordighera.
I climbed up through the old town to visit Madonna Della Costa, which looks like it was transported over the Alps from 'The Sound Of Music', but features a spectacular panorama of the city and Mediterranean.
San Remo was full of really nice surprises!

We were visiting Italy the 5 time, and San Remo felt little bit pricy for restaurants, beach entering, but on the whole it's very beautiful region. It's very close to France so you can have a chance to visit even 3 countries(Italy, Monaco and France).
A very unique stayover - right in the port of San Remo amongst the beautiful yachts. Mr. Fraboni was extremely helpful and had many recommendations for restaurants etc. He was very flexible and was receptive to our requests. We had a wonderful 'adventure' on a seaworthy craft which was different from any hotel or b&b.
We would definitely return and recommend to everyone, especially if you like boats and the sea.
Bright spacious and clean apartment, close to everything. Nice terrace with rooftop views. Matteo was a great host.
(We had a laugh about the washing machine which was a bit old fashioned but it did work). Could do with shower box update, but nothing serious.
Frequent local buses and easy trip to Monte Carlo by train. Great atmosphere in San Remo in the evenings.
We would definitely stay there again.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at a delightful B&B in San Remo, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. The cozy rooms, beautiful location, and warm hospitality from the owners made my stay truly memorable. The breakfast was a highlight, featuring fresh local produce and homemade treats. Highly recommended B&B if you're looking for a charming retreat in San Remo.
Beautiful hotel with amazing views out to sea. Staff were incredible and absolutely made our stay. Breakfast was lovely sitting out on patio - would have loved dinner there as well but unfortunately weather did not allow. We received a room upgrade on arrival which is always a nice touch. San Remo is a lovely town and definitely worth a visit.
It was our second time spent in this very hotel. The bed is very comfortable, the view is astonishing, and the bathroom is spacious and clean. Welcoming staff and housekeepers. The location couldn't be better. We didn't need to use our car at all within Sanremo. I loved writing on the balcony. It gives utter inspiration immediately.
loved the breakfast every morning and the hotel staff were absolutely amazing! the location was good near the central area and in front of the water but the hotel is up on a hill. if you have a car it’s fine but we walked and it was pretty steep and at least 5-10 mins walk up hill. otherwise very clean room with a beautiful view!
This hotel was perfect for our quick stop over in San Remo! The location was amazing - you could walk to the beach in one direction or the center of town in the other direction. The views from the room were so beautiful! The rooms were very spacious and the beds were very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!
The hotel offers self-catering apartments and enjoys a sea front location. There is parking available on site, which was a requirement for my motorbike. It has a great location to access all of the main San Remo attractions. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I really enjoyed my stay here.
The property is perfect for a long or a short stay, has all kind of amenities and it’s a very comfortable place. Plus, you have the privacy a hotel does not provide. Nadra and Francesco are very nice and kind people and they were there when I arrived to show me the place and welcome me.
Up in the hills with a beautiful look around the hills of San Remo and a lovely, hearty family that takes care of you.
Rooms were clean with air conditioning. Suberb pool and a location that really gives you the holiday feeling. It's just a 5 min, adventures drive to the city.
Amazing hotel quality, new interior and exterior.
nice sun beds in the pool, great bar, breakfast
was ok. They give out electric bikes for free to
ride around San Remo which is amazing! Free parking.
Direct sea access. Super super pet friendly! Super value for money!
Beautiful classic design hotel in excellent condition, close to the center/ casino of San Remo. Very friendly staff, high ceiling room, clean, delicious breakfast for an affordable price. Roof solarium with a breathtaking view
Marco was extremely helpful. The hotel is a grand dame and in a great location for shopping, beaches, bike riding, restaurants, etc. It was gracious in every detail.
