Spotlessly clean. Breakfast was nice, the very spacious room had - I suppose - a Japanese design. A comfortable double bed, a low table and two very low stools, but no sofa, no chair, no desk.
Very spacious bathroom.
A Jacuzzi in the bathroom AND on the terrace!

The deer roaming freely was amazing. The hub of the town was vibrant. The big Buddha temple was very interesting but I would recommend using a guide. I fell due to uneven loose paver and some were very slippery when wet. Night street lighting was poor tbh. Over all a nice place to visit.

I liked best out hotel, ryokan that accepted tattoos in the public onsen and also had a private bathroom, with an amazing room overall.
The deers are quite agressive, not attacking people but stealing anything they can and munching on your clothes if they smell food on you. Still it was a very interesting experience. The crafts museum was just a small shop, but the games museum was super interactive and fun, with very friendly staff. Both of those were free and close by. In Nara everything is pretty close, walking distance, and the streets are very beautiful with traditional architecture.

As the major cities in Japan become larger and more...
As the major cities in Japan become larger and more identical to each other, they also become a little difficult for tourists to manage easily and feel at home in. But Nara has retained the feel it had when I was last there, half a century ago. Back then I said it was the favourite city, along with Kyoto, of any I visited in Japan. Right now I say it is STILL my favourite city, and in the 21st century it has left Kyoto well behind. If I were spending a week in the Kansai area, I would base myself in Nara in preference to Osaka or any of the "majors", and do day trips everywhere else. You will save on accommodation, for a start!

The Todaiji temple and the Kofuku-ji Buddhist temple next to...
The Todaiji temple and the Kofuku-ji Buddhist temple next to it are a must-see. The museum was okay. The Isui-en Wisteria garden was okay too but it was too crowded because the flowers were in bloom. There are a number of restaurants and cafes on the street from the Nara Station to Nara Park.
Walking from Hotel Nikko/Nara Station to Nara Park and walking to all the attractions nearby was very tiring. So, I may recommend taking the bus on the way back, if possible. Also, it suddenly started raining in the afternoon and luckily, I had an umbrella with me.
I wished I had more time to see some of the other attractions outside of the Nara Park.

This was the most welcome I felt of our entire trip.
This was the most welcome I felt of our entire trip. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind. If you could choose any hotel for your vacation this has to be the one because it will be your favorite. The food and staff were my favorites. The room was clean and comfy and they even had buckwheat pillows!

The best advice I can give is find where the biggest crowds...
The best advice I can give is find where the biggest crowds are massed, all trying to impress deer with the same rice crackers that everyone else is trying to feed them, then pick a direction and walk away from them. There is so much more to the park: primeval forests, ancient stone pathways leading to temples and small villages older than most of our own countries, hidden pockets of lost time. It is hard to explain how it feels to not have another human being in sight, finding yourself passing stone idols carved by people hundreds of years ago, only to see a deer eating moss from the base of said idol that stops chewing to literally bow to you. Of course you bow back and scramble in your bag for some kind of treat to offer your new best friend (I recommend unsalted pretzel sticks, the deer hate plain rice crackers as much as we do at this point) and then having it gently eat from the palm of your hand, before you both again swap polite bows and go on your merry way. Then you hear a crow sing from the ancient forest behind you, and you just know: this is pretty cool.
We absolutely loved our stay at the hotel! The staff was very attentive, helpful, and friendly. They gave us recommendations on what to see in Nara and for where to have one of the best dinners we've had in Japan. The facilities were beautiful, with a gorgeous roof terrace with an amazing view that we enjoyed at sunset. The hotel's onsen gave us the chance of relaxing after so many days of traveling. The location was also great, close to major Nara attractions. We only stayed for one night, but wished we could have stayed for more.
This was one of the best stays we've had in Japan. Comfortable rooms, luxury amenities and the best of all , Onsen experience that takes away all your stress and fatigue.
My wife really loved the comfort pyjamas and the dress provided. Hotel has its own restaurant and is just a minute's walk away from Nara JR station. Not to mention the vending machines within the hotel and the Lawson nearby for anything else. The deer park is also quite nearby.
Staff was polite and knew good conversational english. It's a 10 on 10.
Comfortable, modern and spacious hotel and room in a central location a few minutes walk from Kintetsu Nara station. The hotel sits conveniently at the border between Nara Park with its great temples, and the area of shops and restaurants around the train station. It sits besides a busy road, but with the windows closed this is no bother at all and our stay was quiet and relaxed. We recommend the breakfast, both the Japanese and the Western options are great.
Staff were great, professional, very helpful and warm.
- Room was big and spacious for a solo traveller.
- Staff spoke great English and gave great recommendations in attractions and restaurants.
- The free breakfast was delicious - also very appetising and filling!
- Location was strategic as Kintetsu-Nara Station, F&B and convenient stores, and Nara Park were all within walking distance.
- Hotel Wi-Fi was strong.
- Didn't expect a coin laundry and dryer in the hotel. Got to clean my clothes at an affordable price.
- Vending machine in the hotel is a plus!
The location is superb. Less than 5 min from Kintetsu Nara Station. Breakfgast, whether Western or Japanese is very good. Service and friendliness is absolutely tops. The inside Onsen warm bath9is an extra bonus I treas1ure very much. Rooms are "roomy" and in a quiet street. Wifi works fine everywhere. You can order dinner served "in your room" and this is a true experience. I have used this hotel many times over more than 10 years!
This is a very excellent Hotel, with the most convenient location of any hotel that I have experienced in Japan, just one short block from the Jr Nara train station. From the train station, buses can take you anywhere that you would want to go in the Nara area, and to me, the Nora area is the best and most important sightseeing in Japan. The breakfast is excellent, as are the rooms. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Our stay at ANDO HOTEL NARA was exceptional. This property is the perfect mix between beautiful facilities, amazing food and great service. The staff was very lovely and attentive and did everything to make our stay perfect. The food at the restaurant was some of the best food we had during our trip in Japan. It's definitely worth booking the panoramic view rooms that offer a beautiful view over the city.
I cannot over emphasize how incredibly helpful, kind, and professional the staff are at this hotel. They went above and beyond the call of duty to assist me. The hotel is clean and efficient and it is in the perfect location to walk to shops, restaurants, and Nara Park. Even though the rooms are very compact, and the beds are a bit on the firmer side, it is an excellent value.
Great spot to stay in Nara. Hotel was clean, room was fairly standard sizing for the Japanese hotels. Location was great, near to lots of good places to eat and withing walking distance to the Kintetsu railway line as well as the nature park and temples. We really enjoyed our stay in Nara, and can recommend the APA hotel as a great place to stay while you visit.
Wisteria is a lovely hotel with really nice, lovely and respectful staff. Rooms are very comfy, so are the beds and everything inside. I love their Onsen bath, so relaxing. They have a vending machine if you feel thirsty at any time and there is a laundry and dryers machines that was very handy. I love it. It was close to all the main venues in Nara.
This was our second stay this year. The location is perfect! Walk 5 minutes from the train platform to the front desk. The onsen is fantastic after long days of walking. There are many options for all meals close by with all types of food and costs.
The JR station is only 15 minutes walk if you want to do a day trip or visit Horyuji. Great hotel!!
Very nice onsen hotel just next to Nara station. Everything was nice, only the window could not be opened the way I would have wished and I always felt a bit like in a room without window (although there was one). The onsen is really nice, free soup and icecream in the evening. Friendly staff, everything clean.
Great location, with a nice view. Close to starbucks which was great for us haha. Nara Park was also close so wasn't too far to see some dear. The families were great, Staff were amazing and very friendly and explained to us the hotel facilities well. They also have chickens that you can pet.
Very nice modern hotel. Big rooms, very comfortable beds, big TV with access to netflix, Amazon etc. Good location, very close to Kintestu Nara station and a couple of mins walk from Nara Park. Loads of nice cafes and restaurants on your doorstep.
Proximity to JR Nara station, immediately next to it. There's a cute market with organic and a gluten free bakery corner across from hotel entrance which was great! Nice onsen, natural hot springs.
Great location, walking distance to Nara park and shopping/food district. The hotel is clean and modern, beds were comfortable, shower had great temperature and pressure. We enjoyed our stay
It’s directly across from the Kintetsu Nara station, and also a strip shopping area. But the hotel is in an alley that cars don’t get in so made the location quiet!! Love that!
