The view on the sea was beautiful, the room super comfortable and the breakfast very good. We really enjoyed the common rooms with armchairs and see on the sunset
Only 12 miles from Alta’s town center, along the Alta River, is where this special igloo hotel is located.

We loved the ice hotel carvings.. It was so unique and beautiful. Definitely worth upgrading to a suite if possible. The breakfast was delicious as well. Several downsides of the hotel include- cost for extra things such as using the hot tub or sauna, also don't recommend the bus driving northern lights tour [very poor forecast and no option to change activities, cancel or try again another day]. We drove around for 2 hours and the guide barely spoke to us.
Set in the same building as AMFI Alta Shopping Center, Thon Hotel Alta offers free Wi-Fi and rooms with a cable TV and mini-bar. Alta Bus Station is located right next to the hotel.

The breakfast was great. It had something for everyone. Plenty of choices including fresh fruit. The hot breakfast items were kept fresh and hot. The hours of operation were perfect for getting food before heading out to see the city.
Located a 30-minute drive from Alta city center, between the arctic tundra and the arctic sea you will find Gargia Lodge, surrounded by nature.

The location, surrounded by nature (but easy-to-drive road from Alta) was very scenic. The wi-fi worked well, The room had character. THere is convenient food available for many hours starting in the late afternoon. This was a buffet of three casseroles (we liked all three, so that was good), with good bread. Beer etc. available. Silent at night.

If your purpose to come here is to watch the Northern light, then this property is good. Just you should not count on the hotel staff to call you when the Northern Light is out. They said they will, but they dont really care for Northern Light. However, since it is very easy to go out for two doors which faces different directions, so if you install the Northern Light tracker App to tell you the % of chance in real time and you also pay attention for the weather forecast hourly, you should know when to go out of hotel door and just standing outside to watch Northern Light. Note, the naked eyes will only see white color like cloud, you have to use the camera to like 10s slow exposure to see. The room is very clean/new/comfort. The restaurant food is good except the fine dining one. Dont go for the tasting menu. They are not that great. The other restaurant is much better. The breakfast is very good. Do join the Husky ride, it was so fun.
On average, 3-star hotels in Alta cost $117 per night, and 4-star hotels in Alta are $162 per night. If you're looking for something really special, a 5-star hotel in Alta can be found for $470 per night, on average (based on Booking.com prices).
Lovely cute place which is not too commercial. Great place to do a northern light run, Go for a smaller tour size of 7-8 ppl instead of 50 sized. First its very safe even if you are going solo and also you have a more personal discussion with the group and also much more personalized attention to see the stars and the northern lights.

I came for the museums and some quiet relaxation, and got plenty of that! Lovely town with good food and lovely people. The weather in June was grand... nice during the day, cooler at night. A fan was all I needed to be cool enough to sleep. The local taxi company got me around town with ease, though their is a bus I never tried out. I sadly do not speak any Norwegian, and I was able to get around with ease.

Alta is a town that is difficult to reach in winter, so it is good to make reservations as late as possible to get a refund without penalty. Accommodation owners and tour operators will take your money and not refund you even if you prove that you didn't arrive in Alta due to weather (cancelled planes or planes that were unable to land).

Be sure to p pick the right time of year.
Be sure to p pick the right time of year. The summer season is very short and several museums and other places close at the end of August. September we found to be relatively fine as well as October. We found that some places were closed whether this was because of the end of season or still related to Covid is/was uncertain.
Alta Museum and its rock drawings and other Sami history is very interesting and informative. The Northern Lights (Nordlys) Cathedral stands dominant in the centre of town and well worth a visit. Obviously at this particular tie of year the Northern Lights are always a possibility.

There are many grocery shops some of which are very large.
There are many grocery shops some of which are very large. We could find gluten free food
The views of the mountains and bay are very nice when it’s sunny
The rock carvings museum is definitely a place to visit
I recommend the Vanvitting Grill for the excellent raindeer burger with strawberry sauce
We got an upgrade to a cottage with a kitchen and it was very beautiful. It was clean and comfortable, and tastefully decorated. We had dinner at the restaurant both nights and the food was good although quite expensive. It is a cosy hotel and we really loved our stay overall. There is a Mexican lady at the restaurant and she is very warm and kind. She went above and beyond to make sure we are eating well at breakfast. There is also a Philippino gentleman who is very helpful. The other staff were also courteous and friendly.
You are provided with two high quality sleeping bags each for your stay in the ice hotel, which could be unzipped and combined to create one large sleeping bag and the the other two could be combined to create a large duvet. This made the stay not only nice and warm, but surprisingly very comfortable and cosy for my partner and I.
We were also fortunate enough to have a clear night and good aurora forecast. That combined with the seclusion of Sorrisniva made for a truly breathtaking Northern Lights show.
Johnny was amazing! He thought of every little thing to make us enjoy our stay. The cabin was beautiful, and we saw a spectacular Northern lights show. The sleigh ride was perfect....I love the Norweigen Fjord horse...Timion. We were able to get close and pet him. Everything about the stay was exceptional, hot tub, homemade breakfast, nature hikes...absolutely competes with the Grande Hotel, Oslo. Flatmoen Natur has better service by far! Can't wait to come back!
The facility was very well managed in the aspects the host considered essential to a camp styled accommodation. Although many things were not provided, like in-cabin bathroom/toilet; or provided with extra cost like towels, bedsheets and duvet linen, pillow cases etc, customers should understand this is by its nature as a camping facility, not a hotel. With this in mind, I was fully satisfied of my stay there for 2 nights. Good job.
We had an all around fantastic stay. Staff was really nice and proactive to make you feel at home.
The included breakfast and the meals we ordered were delicious.
Certainly a fantastic experience if you're looking for something other than the usual hotel room.
And as luck has had it the weather allowed us to see a beautiful aurora right there and then.

Excellent boutique hotel with spacious cabins in a pine forest. The self-service breakfast is just splendid. The setting is quiet, while still just about 15 minutes away from Alta. Our cabins had large observation decks that are oriented to the most common direction of northern lights. (Not all cabins are equipped with this, tough).
Beautiful modern lodge a short ride outside of Alta with breathtaking mountain views. Outdoor warm jacuzzi and indoor sauna was very enjoyable. Kitchen well equipped and rooms were clean and well furnished with towels and bedding. Communication with the host was great - would love to be back soon.
Right next to the mall in the small cute town of Alta . Breakfast was good and the view from the hotel is also beautiful .
The Resturant has good food options and very friendly and they took note of the food specifications .
The shower stall was tiny but clean and good water pressure
Good location close but outside Alta. Nice cabin. Very friendly and helpful staff member. He did his best to allow for the heating of my car during the night (-20 C). The are only a few electricity plugs on the camp side and wire extension was necessary to reach these due to the snow.
Lovely property with really nice staff and an amazing restaurant. Had a walk through the husky dog yard and a walk down to the Alta River - all on the property - and a memorable and very high quality restaurant experience.
