OK, here's something you may not read often. So I'm rather deaf, and of course my hearing aids need to recharge overnight and can't be worn when I'm sleeping. I had an early departure from Amsterdam Centraal which is a fifteen-minute walk from the hotel. I left a 6 am wake-up call, but the phone in the room was not set to ring very loudly, so of course I couldn't hear the call at all. At 6:10 I awaken to find myself being gently shaken by this very beautiful young woman, who tells me that when I did not answer the call, she was concerned that something had happened to me overnight. I thank her, being grateful that I was wearing something, and ten minutes later I do hear a phone call that is her checking on me to make sure I have awakened. That's conscientious, don't you think? Of course the story is very Dutch.

The room is far too compact. It has a king-sized bed, which I asked for, not realizing. Around the bed there is maybe three feet of space. If you tried to fit a couple in there, it would never work. There is a little tiny narrow desk with a desk chair that you can't pull far enough back without hitting bed to fit your legs under the desk and sit in the chair without twisting it sideways, sitting down, and twisting it straight to write at the desk. They also have one tiny army chair in the corner. Of course the Dutch are famous for getting a lot done with very little space, but this is ridiculous. I've spent a lot of time in Amsterdam and always wanted to stay once briefly at this famous hotel and I expected more. Try the Radisson on Ruslandstraat instead. The breakfast buffet is in this cavernous dining room. Like three or four waiters need to bring coffee to each table, which of course is far from happening promptly through no fault of the waiters trying to cover that much space. I asked a waiter the first day to bring me a pot instead of a cup. He did, very graciously, but he brought me a teapot full , apologizing that that was all they had. In a country famous for its cheese, they could have better options. They have an omelet maker on duty, which is nice, but more than I wanted for breakfast.

Room was tiny but clean with good lighting. The step from the door to the bed is a killer. I fell, my wife fell and our friend fell in her room. This step isn’t marked. A simple swing rod would caution us. The staff was as good as it gets. Everyone of them were wonderful.

Very good location, right in the airport. Good for early flights and easy to get there. Facilities were not good, the shower head was broken and black because of humidity, and sees that hasn't had a maintenance for long time...

Staircase very narrow. We kept our luggage downstairs as we did not want to navigate the small steps and winding staircase.

      Location and clean rooms

The first impression of the lobby was depressing. Old and ugly furniture, bad lighting. The rooms are renovated and clean but with old fashioned and cheap furnishings. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms also clean but without any decorative touch.
