Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAbsolutely lovely property in the heart of downtown York. We just adored the room we stayed in, which was the Drawing Room as well as our meals we had at the Cellar Bar. Would recommend for a luxurious and charming stay away from home. Staff was extremely friendly as well.

United StatesMy room # 10 was facing the courtyard where there are at least 20 -30 outdoor tables that are sitting companies of people who are just having drinks after 4-5 pm until probably at least 11 pm . It is loud … room is super hot , as it has 2 windows facing West and there are dumpsters under the windows . U can only open tiny bit of windows to air the room and it isn’t helping . Luckily I was exhausted that day and felt asleep despite all the noise . 4 am garbage and cleaning trucks woke me up and noise was going for a while . At this point it is better just to get up .
Lodge is a great place in terms of location , restaurant and cellar , if one interested . Room is very spacious with all one needs for the stay . Bed is very comfortable , tea and coffee , cookies , and milk that is delivered to the room for your morning as well . Breakfast was very tasty

United KingdomThe breakfast wasn't as nice as we'd have hoped given how beautiful the hotel was and its star rating. I ordered poached eggs on toast and my husband poached eggs with salmon. Both dishes were fine but little effort was made with presentation not even butter on the toast. The continental pastries were mini versions and tasted stale and hard, a fresh full sized croissant would've been wonderful. We waited a good 20 minutes for a coffee refill (a pot on the table would've been a better idea). All in all just a basic breakfast with acceptable service. It wouldn't stop us coming back again because overall we loved it....but next time we'd go out for breakfast.
The room was beautiful and so clean! We booked for a birthday gift and were really impressed with the room and hotel. We were in the Doctors Office it had super high ceilings a luxury bed and the huge bath was a real treat. We had a view of the Minster too! Loved it!!!

United KingdomMy room on the first floor was overlooking the front of the property, which was exceptionally clean and had character. Breakfast was served downstairs in the Cellar Bar and, in my opinion, there was plenty of choice. The staff were all friendly and professional. The hotel couldn’t be in a better location for visiting the City. If arriving by train, this is only a 10 minute walk from the station.

United KingdomPrice seemed quite high for a standard room on the terrace. Would have much preferred to stay in the actual hotel itself as we have on previous occasions.

Everything was beautiful 😍 great location for the heart of York,we loved seeing the York minster cathedral from our room 🥰.I have arthritis in my hips but I didn't care because it was worth it and probably helped me with my daily exercise 🙂 but if you can't walk then it's not a room for you, but they have lots of rooms on the ground floor and it's worth the stay as it is so central, food is amazing breakfast is good and the staff are fantastic, especially Amy who went out of her way to accommodate us, she's an asset to judges lodgings 🙂. night lights in the front of the hotel to sit and enjoy a drink is wonderful.

United KingdomMinor issues with our room. Cold shower on arrival (quickly sorted), Round door handles meant fingers were easily caught on the door frame (change to levers), Position of toilet roll holder made access to toilet awkward (suggest putting it on the back of the door)
Location is perfect. staff were lovely. Interesting building. Would happily stay again.
